The Writers

Last anatomy also called regional and applied anatomy is written by Chummy S Sinnatamby. This book is predicated on regional anatomy means if you wish to research anatomy regionally then you must learn and observe this ebook. This ebook is kind of distinctive from different books as it’s not that a lot detailed and is considerably temporary. It has colourful diagrams which might be very useful to grasp the textual content. And also you wouldn’t want any atlas to seek for diagrams. This book is best for MRCS studies. But other students can also use it as it is one of the best book of anatomy. Here are some more books of regional anatomy that you should also try: Snell anatomy by regions pdf. Gray’s clinical anatomy. Moore anatomy pdf. Here are some of the features of Last’s anatomy:

Last’s anatomy.

Had an online tip that it was a really anatomy book (I teach the subject for a Medical School) and it supposedly had many clinical correlations and tips as to how anatomy correlated with it. Unfortunately, the actual anatomical detail was somewhat lacking. So what we have is an average book wtih occasional anatomical-clinical correlations.

Although I prefer the formatting in older versions of Lasts, this book is still the best detailed companion for learning anatomy. If looking to start with the basics, I’d suggest using a less “heavy” book – reading this when just beginning anatomy can be overwhelming for many. Still my favourite.

A genuine classic

This is a really good anatomy book, the best there is. It contains more than enough detail to pass the MRCS and higher exams too, but there are a few qualifications to that statement:

– It’s not a book for beginners.
When I was in medical school, I bought the 9th Edition, since someone told me that “it’s the book that the surgeons use”. This is indeed true: I am now a surgeon, and this is the book I use (I bought the Kindle version for my FRCS Orth, and it was very helpful). However, I found this book totally unreadable as an undergraduate. It’s superbly dense: page after page of detailed text, squeezing the maximum information into each paragraph. But the flip-side of this is that there is very little in the way of a ‘big picture,’ and it’s hard to get your bearings.

– It’s getting shorter with each edition.
Seriously, the 12th edition is about half as the length of the 9th. I feel that this is both a positive and a negative. On the one hand, brevity is usually a good thing. On the other hand, the older descriptive text injected a bit of fun and context into the proceedings, which is now lost. Mind you, I might have preferred the shorter version as a student…

– The illustrations are terrible, and always have been.
Last has always been about the text, and the diagrams have always been poor – too small, and unclear. Furthermore, they are usually several pages away from the point at which they are referenced in the text. But this can be forgiven, as the text *really is* the best there is, and if you want pictures there are plenty of excellent anatomy atlases available (my favourite being Netter’s), and it is always much easier to study anatomy with the text in one book and the pictures in another, as it saves you from flipping back and forth between the pages.

– Buy the printed copy, not the Kindle version.
This is a problem that I have seen with many medical books on Kindle: the formatting and illustrations are just terrible. It’s like they didn’t try it out on a real device. The illustrations small on the page, and are *extremely* low resolution, so cannot be zoomed in (sometimes even the captions are hard to read). This is not just a problem with the Kindle hardware, they look terrible using the Kindle App on an iPad as well.

So, in summary, if you are a serious student of Anatomy or Surgery, you should absolutely get this book, but I highly recommend that you get an atlas to go along with it.
