Pictures Really are Worth a Thousand Words!

Having taken this class with Dr. Kierszenbaum at his school, i know how much histology can focus on what seems like minute details, such as little blue and purple dots in microscopes. Fortunately. Dr. Kierszenbaum’s textbook, which is being released in its second edition in January 2007, is filled with loads of great pictures. The text is decent, and at least for me, it took a long time just to get through a single chapter. Once that’s done, though, the pictures are all you need for review. Although it depends on the style of your histology class, Dr. Kierszenbaum’s book should be a good, colorful read for many students.

It is an excellent histology book. Perhaps it’s not suitable when you try studying histology for the first time, because it’s very detail-oriented, but it’s a great book for reference. One thing that is kind of annoying is that the font is really small. I’m from Greece and the same edition translated in Greek has 100 pages more just because the font is bigger. Because of that I found some trouble reading it in English. In conclusion, great histology book for someone who wants to go in a little deeper in the understanding of histology. As for beginners, I would recomment something like “Junquiera’s Basic Histology”

Not a great book, but the diagrams are good

Let me begin by pointing out that the diagrams in ths book are worth far more than the text. In fact there is probably more text captioning and labeling the diagrams than in the body of the text itself. The downside is that somethings shown in diagrams are simply not at all mentioned in the text, so ii you use a textbook for the text contained within (or because you were told that you had to buy it), and look at the pictures only to understand what is written in the text, you will probably miss some important points. I recommend studying this book only after you have developed some familiarity with the basics of histology, then you can go through the diagrams of this book to clarify or reinforce your knowledge.

The excellent general histopathology textbook ever. Written in outline format, nevertheless precise and deep in its scope without flooding overwording. The schematic pictures are invaluable. Many thanks and great respect to the authors!

The provided slides and images are really well done, quite easy (as cell biology, histology and pathology can be easy) to understand and very clear in the explanation, especially for the cell biology topics. Maybe it could be less synthetic in the histology part, but still remains a very good book.

とても分かり易かったです．
情報も大変多く，「組織」を顕微鏡で実際に見て学ぶ人々には，
かなり役に立つ参考書だと思います．
特にこの本では，写真自体に矢印や書き込みがあり，
観察すべきポイントが理解し易く，非常に参考になりました．

日本語で書かれた組織学の本というものは数多くありますが、先まで読んでみたいという気にさせられるのもは少ないです。しかし、これは違いました。単に、イラストが豊富であることのみによるものではありません。An Introduction to Pathologyと銘打たれているだけのことはあって、組織の異常から生じる病気の例から、反対に正常時の機能というものがどの様なものであるのかが読み取りやすいように思われるます。このことが先まで読みたくなる理由の一つではないかと思います。
また、英文も平易で名詞さえ分かれば読むことにさして困難はありません。時間があれば辞書を引きながら読む価値は充分にあると思います。
