The Authors
Nancy Staggers is an expert in clinical informatics. Her research has concentrated on the usability of clinical solutions, informatics competencies, and the implementation/evaluation of enterprise EHRs. She was an Army officer leading large EHR installations across the Department of Defense.
She began her academic career in 1998 at the University of Utah where she was also associate CIO in 2001-2004; she was at the University of Maryland from 2010 – 2014.
Her awards include the Reed A. Gardner award for faculty excellence, the AMIA Nursing Informatics Pioneer, and an AMIA signature award for a distinguished career in Nursing Informatics (Virginia K. Saba award).
She and Ramona Nelson published a textbook, “Health Informatics: An Interdisciplinary Approach” in 2014. This text won the AJN textbook of the year in Feb 2014. She is a member of AMIA and HIMSS and publishes extensively about clinical informatics topics
