The Authors

Nancy Staggers is an expert in clinical informatics. Her research has concentrated on the usability of clinical solutions, informatics competencies, and the implementation/evaluation of enterprise EHRs. She was an Army officer leading large EHR installations across the Department of Defense.

She began her academic career in 1998 at the University of Utah where she was also associate CIO in 2001-2004; she was at the University of Maryland from 2010 – 2014.

Her awards include the Reed A. Gardner award for faculty excellence, the AMIA Nursing Informatics Pioneer, and an AMIA signature award for a distinguished career in Nursing Informatics (Virginia K. Saba award).

She and Ramona Nelson published a textbook, “Health Informatics: An Interdisciplinary Approach” in 2014. This text won the AJN textbook of the year in Feb 2014. She is a member of AMIA and HIMSS and publishes extensively about clinical informatics topics

Let’s start with the fact that the book promised an online companion learning experience yet the book provides no code to access the content (yes, I purchased a new book). The editing is so bad that the copyright date on the inside of the book is 2018. Seeing as how I am writing this review in September of 2017, and I do not have a Delorian, that is highly improbable. At least 20 pages have double-printed text making the paragraphs impossible to read.
Terrible content. If you want a book that reads like a list of blithering generalities and speaks in platitudes without offering any meaningful content, use this book. Otherwise, convince your professor to use articles available through your campus’ library or online journal content.”

Rebecca Waddell ” If you like reading the same generalization restated in vaguely the same way over and over and having the same terms defined differently in each chapter, then this book is for you! It took me forever to get through each chapter, but even after reading it I still couldn’t understand what it was trying to say. I had much better luck using Google to define the terms I needed to know for my class. Skip this book if at all possible! If not, definitely rent instead of purchase. It’s not one you’re ever going to want to use as a resource“

Flnbar “The other reviews are spot on about the content of this book. Using the e-book (kindle) is proving to be way more difficult than I could have imagined. For instance, in the 2nd half of the book, all pages are listed as “page 658” on kindle. So good lucking trying to use the page numbers to follow along with your instructor. Secondly, when I flip pages forward or backward, kindle will shuffle around paragraphs and tables to different pages. Which makes it almost impossible to keep a steady idea of where you are in the book; couple this with the above problem and good luck trying to navigate this book successfully. I can’t wait to be done with this book.”
