I gave one of my sons a prior revision of this book a couple years ago. He had started his journey into 3D printing and this book has a huge number of tips, tricks, and ideas for diagnosing printer issues.

Sean does a fantastic job showing the symptoms of print issues and provides extensive ideas on how to resolve those problems along with describing the root cause and how to avoid issues.

Not only is this book good for someone just getting started but even someone with years of experience in 3D printing is likely to gain something from it as well. The book is well-written, the photos are great, and Sean regularly updates the book to keep up with the latest information out there.

Get it for yourself or someone who is a 3D printing enthusiast!

I discovered the book by chance after Googling some issues with a printout.
The description of the book gave me the impression that they had compiled a list of examples and what could cause different types of errors in the printouts. Most things can be found on the Internet by searching a bit but having a physical book is still preferable when it comes to encyclopedias. The first impression was good so I ordered the book which was delivered in a short time.

This is a structured and well-written book that helps you understand what can affect the quality of your printouts.

I believe that the book is as good for beginners as more experienced in 3d printing.

The main part of the book gives you a systematic description of mechanical / technical details that may affect your printouts.

It explains the properties and basic settings for various types of plastics.

The rest of the book can be defined as a reference work. Do you have a print that has failed or is not as good as it used to be?

Then you use the book’s encyclopedia with pictures to find an in-depth answer to what you need to look for and possibly adjust.
On request, you get access to high-quality photos from the book.

The book explains briefly and precisely what a slicer does.

It goes into depth on some settings that are affected by the dimension of the nozzle you use.
Print time vs. quality and / or strength.

You also get a few specific tips to provide better support for eg high / thin prints with custom support. You can, for example, set two different infill values on one and the same object. Or print two objects at the same time but with different infill. The book covers the minimum of what you need to know about a slicer. It is Cura that is described but you can use this on almost all slicers.

The book covers the entire spectrum with challenges such as mechanical wear, vibrations, lack of cleaning / maintenance, the importance of the right temperatures and the right use of slicers.

A book that should come with all printers.
