This is my least favorite textbooks so far in my NP program

This is my least favorite textbooks so far in my NP program. Most of the book is in bulleted notes format which I do not enjoy reading.

Much of the textbook is available only online

November 10, 2020

Too many chapters are available only in the ‘online’ edition of the textbook. For example: Chapter 22: CNS Imaging. The chapter on Vein of Galen aneurysm? online only. Microcephaly? online only. Thinking about bringing this book with you to read in your spare time while traveling or at work? You’re going to have to go back and read the remainder of each chapter online. I imagine the authors might say, “but the book is already 1400 pages –we cannot fit it all in.” However, the solution is easy: a printed 2 volume edition. That’s the format with Harrison’s Internet Medicine: 2 printed volumes. Campbell’s Urology: 3 printed volumes. It seems that every good definitive text in medicine has multiple printed volumes. Creasy should too. Some of the chapters are also way too long, others too short: breastfeeding is 20 pages, while fetal growth restriction is barely 10 pages.

 A staple for my practice

January 8, 2019

I work as a nurse practitioner in a high risk obstetrical office. While I believe this book is mostly directed toward medical students, this book has became a staple in my practice. My attending physician refers to his version of the same book often and I refer to mine almost daily. Having access to the online version is also an extremely convenient reference.
