JJ White
One of North America’s best newspapers
May 13, 2019

Excellent newspaper. Very readable and insightful coverage of American politics (Trump-ugly etc) and culture. TV critic, John Doyle, serves up tasty recommendations like The Americans & Outlander. I’d rather read about the US from Canadians — they know us better & we have no clue about them. Pity, eh.

Always find something interesting in the G&M
April 19, 2013

While the Globe and Mail is not an international newspaper, for U.S. readers it can provide some interesting perspectives on events and current issues in the U.S. Most Americans don’t realize how closely linked our two economies are and that what happens in the U.S affects our neighbors to the north and vice versa so I often find interesting news in the G&M that is not being reported in the major U.S. papers.

Also, I have discovered several Canadian mystery authors through the G&M and frequently go out of my way to acquire Canadian works that are not currently available in the U.S.

So, yes, I enjoy the G&M even though, alas, it has changed hands and undergone some changes since I first started reading it on the Kindle.

factual straight forward reporting
June 17, 2019

I was trying to stay in-touch with the going-on in the WE ARE THE NORTH homeland.
The G&M was perfect for coverage of what was going on from pipeline to SNC-Lavalin to sports stories to politics… alot to read, alot of good solid coverage.

Good on Kindle, Better on Tablet
March 12, 2013

This pretty much the standard newspaper version except the images on the Kindle e-ink version are usually missing or very terrible (understandably) but the tablet version has full colour photos.

My biggest disappointment (not that big, really) is the lack of sports scores and standings. When I’m travelling without my laptop it would be nice to check the scores in the morning without having to find an internet cafe. I love the free Whispernet delivery when abroad, too. Very convenient!

I’d consider subscribing to this if it came with access to the G&M website but unfortunately it does not.

Objectivity Lacking
November 3, 2018

I have subscribed on Kindle for several years. A big annoyance is late delivery or no delivery. These are not frequent occurrences but are frustrating when they happen. With respect to content, I despise the articles written by so-called guests of the articles’ subjects. I don’t need fake news or, at least, articles where the reporter has forfeited objectivity.

A newspaper making the news, not just reporting it
April 8, 2019

I am cancelling subscription, the Globe’s unrelenting focus on the SNC Lavalin affair is destroying a fair and not perfect government.
I’m not a liberal or a Trudeau supporter, but what happened should have made headlines for one or two days, no more.
We now have a national crisis fabricated by this newspaper. Wrong.

Disappointed
Disappointing change of former content
September 12, 2020

The Globe and Mail itself has changed its content. It once had regular travel, food, and book review sections like the New York Times but with a Canadian view and including a Canadian content that as a U.S. reader I appreciated. Because of that change and no improvement, I have been seriously considering dropping my subscription.

decent newspaper
March 10, 2014

Ironically the Globe and Mail bills itself as a national newspaper but it doesn’t distribute throughout all of Canada. I have been reading this paper for years but have noted that in the last couple of years many of the writers have changed and it’s certainly not what it was.
