Toxicities of Radiation Treatment for Breast Cancer PDF

Features of Toxicities of Radiation Treatment for Breast Cancer PDF

This book is a comprehensive guide to breast toxicity. Adjuvant radiation remains standard for a majority of women who undergo breast-conserving surgery for breast cancer, and indications for post-mastectomy and regional lymph node irradiation have also broadened with recent publications.  At the same time, locoregional recurrence has declined and survival has improved in recent decades.  In the current era of excellent breast cancer outcomes, then, considering the balance between toxicity and outcomes becomes paramount.  Several recent editorials recommend considering toxicity against the potential benefit of adjuvant radiation in tailoring radiation decisions for individual patients.  Thus, a clear understanding of the potential toxicities of adjuvant radiation for breast cancer is critical to optimizing outcomes in modern breast cancer management.  Here, authors have collected recent data focused on toxicity of treatment that provide an opportunity for improving this optimization. Chapters cover both acute and late toxicity of radiation for breast cancer, including tailored risk assessment for each of these potential toxicities, considerations for including risk of toxicity in management decisions, and toxicity management strategies. This is an ideal guide for radiation oncologists, residents, and oncologists seeking to optimize care for their patients.

I purchased this flip chart to help me teach the theory online as most illustrations of the vagal complex available are too confusing for most patients. Unfortunately, the author thinks it acceptable to dummy down the illustrations and draw out the explanations; that is, bore our clients into good mental health. If and when I do use this chart, I’ll skip around to the most salient pages and ignore the rest. Btw, don’t expect it to last if you intend to use it often. The shrink wrapping bends the metal hinge, and straightening it isn’t enough to keep the pages from binding as they’re turned, thus wearing out the cutouts that are only marginally reinforced.

Great Tool for Working with Clients

October 28, 2020

As a therapist, not to nerd out too much, but I have been waiting for this flip chart to be released. This is such a great tool for working with clients who have experienced trauma and need assistance with developing emotion-regulation skills. It beautifully illustrates polyvagal theory with words, images, therapist scripts, and tools which can be used with dry-erase markers. I highly recommend for anyone working with those who have experienced trauma.

  tool, but…

This is very useful for explaining the basic points of the polyvagal theory and how it applies to the activation of different states. The pages have a one-sided laminate finish, so one can use whiteboard markers on them. However, since the other side is not laminated, I am wondering about the longevity of the flip chart. Also, the last five pages seem rather pointless. It would have been better to include some breathing exercise, meditation, and other vagus nerve stimulation practices.
Finally, a word on quality control: My first flip chart arrived in a box soaked with water and was damaged. That was the postal services’s fault. However, the replacement chart came with the metal spiral bent from the shrink wrapping and the cover page damaged from it. That is a quality control issue. In the end, only the third attempt successfully provided me with an undamaged flip chart. Fortunately, was very helpful with the returns.
