Don’t waste money on the 10th edition of this book..

I have the eighth edition as well as the 10th edition of this book (I bought it by accident) and the content of the these two books is pretty much the same but there is a huge price difference! eighth edition is only $5.97 and the 10th edition is $82!!! if you have to buy this book, I would suggest you buy the 8th edition copy to save money

An okay reading!

I’m in grad school, and our first semester they require us to take Counseling Theories first. My professor put this book as our required text. Overall, theories can be overwhelming because there are so many of them and they come with various techniques, views, etc. With that being said, this book is very informational but some of the information is organized in an odd way which makes it even harder to learn. It has chapters dedicated to the different theories but then it’ll throw some random ones in those same chapters with no explanation as to how or if they relate. As a new student to the counseling world, it made it hard to differentiate. If there are other books out there that talk about the theories I would explore those options, if not this book isn’t a bad choice.
Came bent, maybe used

Alittle disappointed that I paid for a new book and I do not feel I got a new book. I would have rented this book if my professor didn’t insist on us having our own copy for testing purposes later down the road. College is expensive and we try to save where we can. That being said, if we buy new, I don’t expect damage. This book is bent up, the seam glue is not even sticking, and there are weird fingerprints on the cover I can’t wipe off. They feel like dried glue.
I would request a replacement if I was already a week behind waiting for this book in the mail. Hopefully there are better copies for others purchasing.

Terrible textbook

I had to buy this book for an undergraduate class. The author repeats himself ad nauseam and uses the term theory so loosely that I could not take him seriously. I stopped reading this book and looked to other sources. Now I am in a graduate class and having to relearn what I read in this awful book.

Review of Rental and layout of content – probably won’t last 3 more students

4 stars because I hope they don’t charge the me or the next person if this book falls apart.
Damage (external):
The binding is nearly separated from both covers. The first page is what’s holding the book to the bind – I plan on being gentile, but maybe two to three more rentals out of the particular book that was sent to me.
There aren’t any marks or other things that look problematic. There are big online store stickers on the front and back if that’s a concern for you.
Damage (internal):
Honestly, pretty good except for all the underlined marks made by the previous renter. I’m not sure why so much is underlined? at times it’s the entire paragraph – how is that helpful? I plan to erase the previous renters marks (thank goodness they wrote in pencil).
Content Layout:
This is the first book I’ve read from Cengage Learning.

The first two parts go over each major theory. Part 3 gets into integration and application of each theory
The author support adding the best of each theory to you counseling toolbox. As someone who wants to practice person centered therapy the layout of the textbook was helpful for me to lean.
