Prescription opioid medication abuse has been declared a national crisis by experts in medicine, substance use, public health, and pain management, culminating in a declaration made by the President of the United States that opioid misuse and abuse is a national health emergency. In this comprehensive text, expert scholars analyze and address a wide range of issues in, obstacles to, and potential solutions for this emergency, which caused more than 50,000 deaths in 2016 alone. It covers a variety of topics related to prescription misuse from both clinical and academic perspectives. The Prescription Drug Abuse Epidemic Incidence Treatment Prevention and Policy PDF

After an opening containing background material on the most commonly misused medications, chapters examine subgroups engaged in misuse and special medical environments where misuse issues are key. They then cover U.S. policy, perspectives outside the U.S., and theories that may explain the misuse phenomena. This book will serve as a resource for students and professionals in fields related to prescription drug abuse—including psychology, sociology, medicine, and public policy—and is accessible to individuals not trained in these fields.

Strange book
June 4, 2020

Got this free from First Reads because I was interested in the illustrations – cute and simple – but the story was too abstract with too many jumps between ideas. Also, as a “shy” child myself, I did not at all feel empowered or encouraged by the “friends” at the end of the book. As a former preschool and now writer/artist, I look for books that can be used in classrooms by teachers, but I don’t know where I would put this one on my shelf. I based my lesson plans on books using the characters for social-emotional exploration and vocabulary to inspire conversation and real world connections. Abstraction is useful, like poetry, that allows the listener to discover things between the lines and develop imagination, but this book leaves me scraping the bottom of the bowl looking for something more. The ingredients just didn’t seem to compliment each other. Three stars because it reminded me of a recipe that is okay, but needs a lot of tweaking.

Sweet story for kids
June 2, 2020

The art style was unique and had a good vibe. The tale was one parent’s can read and many kids can relate to especially introverts and kids moving to new places. My boy said the part with the baby chick reminded him of when he had his little robot and it fell down so he picked it up and then had daddy put new batteries in so the robot could work again. Good first reads pick. My boy loves being read to and getting all these books is expensive so I appreciate free books we can read on his tablet.

Good kids book

Nice little book to read to kidos. A little to advanced for K5 to read but maybe 1st or 2nd graders could read independently.

Very cute

Sweet and encouraging book that made kids happy – especially when I read Juju’s voice as deep and manly as my high pitched voice goes.

The only real downside is that the type is hard to see on my phone. It will be much better on a tablet.

I wanted to read this to my granddaughter but the type was so small and you couldn’t make it any bigger. So I had to delete it!!! Very disappointed.

Adorable Picture Book with a Meaningful Message!
June 4, 2020

The illustrations in this book are absolutely beautiful! I’m not sure exactly how they were made; it looks like a variety of mediums were used. But the style is gorgeous and very unique. Plus, this book has a wonderful message of staying true to yourself and not worrying so much about what others think. I believe this message would resonate with many readers, of all ages, as we all feel insecure sometimes. Overall, I think Kat and Juju is a fantastic picture book that would appeal to both children and adults. I’d definitely recommend it!
