This is a very touching story of Archie McIndoe and his Guinea Pigs. The reconstruction of these brave men is one that everyone should read. These airmen were shot down and survived with terrible burns and thanks to Archie McIndoe they survived and went on to have full lives. These men never talked about their ordeal but met for reunions where they were able to. My father was one of Archies Guinea Pigs and though he lived with the scars both physically and mentally he was able to have a good life thanks to Archie and Dr Ross Tilly, the doctors and nurses of the Eastgrinstead Hospital and all the people of the town who helped the men never give up hope.

Great book combining history and the history of medicine as well, fascinating read

I thought it was pretty decent. I would have liked to have it go into more depth around the medical end of it, after all, this was leading edge technology at the time and McIndoe was the pioneer. Interesting read regardless.
