The Writers

The Great British Baking Show 2021 contains delicious recipes from throughout the series, with contributions from Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith and the series 12 bakers.

Paul Hollywood started his training as a baker aged twelve and then went to art college and trained as a sculptor. The love of working with his hands finally led him into creating new, unique and specialty breads full-time. He has worked as Head Baker at several renowned hotels and is the founder of the Hollywood Company Deli, which supplies his own breads to top London restaurants and supermarkets. Paul has recently appeared as a guest on 8 Out of 10 Cats, Lorraine and The Jonathan Ross Show. He has been a judge on The Great British Bake Off since 2010 as well as hosting his own BBC shows Paul Hollywood’s Bread and Paul Hollywood’s Pies & Puds.

Be ready to convert temps & measurements

As a fan of the GBBO, I love this cookbook. These recipes are arranged seasonally and include a picture index. I enjoyed the featured bios of the season 9 contestants and the recipes from this just finished season. Recipes from the judges are also featured. As an American, a lot of pre-baking preparation has to go into each recipe, from deciphering ingredients to converting oven temperatures and measurements. I don’t mind this aspect, but it is VERY time consuming. I baked Paul’s Jammy Biscuits and they were perfect. I’m looking forward to baking Primrose and Lemon Cake, Prue’s Sable Breton, Giuseppe’s Celebration Cake, and Persian Love Cake.

Book came scratched and pages bent. Recipes themselves look amazing and the photography is beautiful. If the book came in good condition, it would have 5 stars. This is a gift:(

The layout of the recipes is fantastic! I like at the end of the book, there’s an overall collection withpictures of bakes so you can easily pick a new recipe to try next. Unfortunately I have to do some US conversions as it’s in UK , but that’s not a big deal. I made Crystelle’s Apple Pecan Miso Caramel tart and it was just soooooo delicious and not overpoweringly sweet, I’ve already made it multiple times and I highly recommend.

Love the cookbook, fun to try bakes I saw on the show

Besides all the disclaimers, the cookbook is wonderful. The instructions walk you through difficult steps, and I found the only limitation was my skill level. That said, I would not recommend this cookbook to a new baker.

It’s important to note this book is not in standard US measurements or even some terms. Some of the equipment or ingredients are difficult to find locally. You have to have an open mind and be flexible. Having an electric scale is a must for baking from this book, arguably in general, and having a small (<100ml) and a large liquid measuring cup in metric volume will go a long way. My Kitchen Aid measuring spoon set has ml marked on them so I found that helpful for the smaller ones.

Though when I ordered this I thought it was going to be recipes from all seasons of the show not the weather, I am still not disappointed because it has a lot of really good recipes, detailed to perfection (so definitely not a “Technical” recipe. Lol) I can’t wait to start baking from this!!

A fun introduction to amateur baking for GBBO fans

I liked Paul, Prue, and the Bakers’ recipes and commentary. The recipes aren’t written for Americans, with many of the instructions and ingredients somewhat foreign to me. But this is where we learn! I have learnt so much about classical European techniques and culinary history through my Google searches. The book is separated into seasons (winter, fall,ect) with recipes that celebrate that season’s flavors. I am currently working my way through winter and so far my favorite is Maggie’s Lemon cake! If you’re a fan and inspired by the show, pick this book up and try your hand at amateur baking!

This book is a lovely addition to any collection. It is beautifully done and so fun to read. Lots of ideas too. It’s a nice size to work with also.

I buy a lot of things from , but never write a review, but this book needed one- everything I have tried making from it so far has turned out amazing. Best baking book I own, hands down. Accessible ingredients, easy to follow recipes, and most importantly delicious. The banana tahini loaf (not pictured because we ate it before I could take a photo) was to die for.

I must admit, I did ask myself, do I really need another Bake Off book? This one is a great book, there are the usual bakers and Judges recipe selections, but some of my favourites are actually just the normal recipes from the book! Done to chime with the seasons, it definitely ties in with post lockdown life, which is spoken about in both Prue and Paul’s introductions. Some are easier and some more challenging. All are absolutely gorgeous in the pictures, which are beautifully styled, but quite doable for the home baker. For me the cakes are the star of this one. Though Paul’s jammy biscuits and caramel biscuit bars plus George’s kourabiethes and the pumpkin rolls all look 👌too!

Beautiful book but arrived damaged

Beautiful book however it arrived damaged. The spine was completely separated from the cover and there were a few tears to the cover and some pages. It was purchased as a gift so is a bit of a shame, if we had been keeping the book for ourselves it wouldn’t have mattered as much but we were unable to give it as a gift. We left it a little late buying the gift, so unfortunately didn’t have time to return/replace book with the seller.
