Hot off The First Argentines, Wheeler slams another home run with The Druid. My only complaint is that the other books in the series aren’t out yet. Guess I’ll have to wait until September for the next book. Loved all the characters and the world-building. Enough background info, that The Druid stands alone and you don’t need to have read the other Muirwood books. Then again, now you have time to read them while waiting for the next book in the Dawning of Muirwood series!

Jeff Wheeler does a fantastic job bringing the story of the building of Muirwod to life in the book. Following along with our character as she grows and learns, and ultimately embarks on a journey that will bring about a change in the maston order. Loved every bit of it.

As the master order succumbs to hypocrisy and the love of power, the Medium fills an humble girl from the lowest lowest social level with truth and light.
The story uses close parallels from history, myth, and Christianity. For example: the timing is the Era of the Inquisition, Mordant is Merlin, and the mastons are priests. However, all elements are uniquely mixed to produce a new and interesting tale.

Good prequel. Interesting to see how muirwood started. Strong characters. Worth a read. If you haven’t read the muirwood series, it’s very good.
