The Writers

Born in Tokyo in 1963, Hideo Kojima is a world-renowned video game creator, and a well-known movie and novel aficionado. He made his directorial debut in 1987 with Metal Gear, which became a series and provided the foundation for the stealth game genre. In 2001, he was selected as one of the ten most influential people in Newsweek magazine’s special feature “Who’s Next.” At the end of 2015, Kojima established Kojima Productions, his own independent studio. He has received international recognition, entering the Hall of Fame at the 2016 DICE Awards and receiving the Industry Icon Award at The Game Awards in 2016. In 2019, Kojima released his long-awaited new game Death Stranding.

Nathan A Collins studied Japanese at the University of Iowa and the Yamasa Institute in Okazaki and has been a translator of novels, manga, and video games for more than a decade. His credits include Battle Royale, Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, as well as entries in the Tales of and Rune Factory series. He’s a gamer dad who bought his PlayStation to play Metal Gear Solid and says: keep on keeping on.

I’m starting to read it but if you know who’s Hideo Kojima and you’re fan of his work, this is a book for you.
My only issue, it came with no protection and with some stains on the cover and back.

If you’re a fan of Hideo Kojima, this book is essential. As a collection of his personal and professional essays, it gives a lot of insight his thought processes. It also shows how different stories across media formats and national boundaries shaped him as a creative. It’s given me a lot of “to read” and “to watch” titles.

I love reading what stuck with Kojima about these other media items. You can tell he is passionate about stories and media in a way that reminds me of a friend being really excited to tell you about their most recent find. I have added several things to my list to experience based off the recommendations Kojima listed in his book.

This book contains a number of essays/ reviews of pieces of media that have inspired Kojima through his lifetime.With little stories of why.The book gives you a viewpoint into the ideology that we are all inspired by the media events and connections around us.

El libro es corto, parece una colección de ensayos que nos llevan de la mano a momentos en la vida de Hideo. Literal, nos da reseñas de libros que lo marcaron y como ha basado sus creaciones en cosas o detalles que le gustaron. Es un libro que te hace viajar en el tiempo en muchas ocasiones y sentir la chispa creativa que iluminó a Kojima y que lo sigue haciendo. El mensaje es que hay que leer y ver películas; para el autor, toda experiencia es buena y todo lo que vemos y aprendemos nos nutre. Todo es parte de la esencia de los autores y es una manera de compartirnos su vida.Para los fans de este creativo, es un must. LaLiLuLeLo

O livro em si é ótimo, traz várias referências e pensamentos que me ajudaram muito na percepção das coisas ao meu redor (sou estudante de cinema e um livro como esse foi de imensa ajuda).
MAS na primeira vez que comprei o livro, ele veio todo sujo, a capa estava bem danificada e tinha uns ciscos por dentro. Então pedi a troca do produto.
O segundo livro que enviaram veio sem lacre, apenas o livro solto dentro da embalagem, mas como não quero sair novamente de casa e o livro está em condições aceitáveis eu vou ficar com ele.

A construção em capa dura é excelente. Qualidade dos materiais e do envio foram certas.

Ainda não terminei o livro, mas já foi em torno de 20% e folheando o estilo, não parece mudar.
Esperava algo mais focado no processo criativo e de trabalho do Kojima, mas é uma coletânea de avaliação de certas obras e histórias e a relação delas com a vida dele e seus trabalhos. Excelente para quem busca sugestões de mundos fantásticos ou como as obras que ele consumiu ajudaram ele se tornar quem é.
