Waste of time and money
March 7, 2018
If I had no knowledge about C-PTSD, this book might be a helpful introduction. But it is ineffective as a workbook because it treats the problem in pieces rather than as a whole. It provides a nice overview of the range of interventions that a therapist might use to treat C-PTSD, but the primary focus of the “exercises” is to ask the reader to write their thoughts about a specific intervention. The back cover of the book presents two assertions: 1) “The exercises and examples in The Complex PTSD Workbook will safely guide yu to explore the emotions and manifestions of your own PTSD” and 2) “The Complex PTSD Workbook aims to empower you with a thorough understanding of the psychology and physiology of trauma….” Neither of these statements is true. The summary resource list (pages 163 and 164 of the book) includes things like “replace negative self-statements with positive beliefs, consciously breathe with a 4-count inhale and a 4-count exhale, half-smile to cultivate a sense of serenity, allow yourself to be vulnerable, go for a savoring walk, reassert healthy boundaries by saying no or asking for what you need.” These are perfectly viable things to do, but they don’t, in my opinion, help me “navigate the complicated and often overwhelming terrain of complex PTSD” or empower me “with a thorough understanding of the psychology and physiology of trauma.” The book wasn’t worth my time and money.

this is fine if you have never done any therapy or just started therapy… this is a BEginers guide , it gives you bite size introductions to different types of therapy. it is not good for somebody like me who has been through most the types listed, i did not get any new or helpful information from this book.
i was dissapointed

A Real Workbook (see pics)
February 3, 2019
When I buy a workbook, I like to know how much is truly given to “work”—how much white space is there? I couldn’t find that online so I’ve included pics here from Chapter 1. There are approximately 6 writing spaces of varying length, and I’ve tried to include a variety of them so you get an idea of the flow of the book. Included the Foreword as I think it helps set clear expectations about what this book aims (and doesn’t aim) to do. Hope this helps. Will try to update when I have gotten more into it…

The best book for C-PTSD
April 10, 2018
This book is a life saver. My doctors had me convinced that none of my problems were related, but after reading through this, the exercises helped me start managing my mental and physical problems stemming from my C-PTSD. The chapters are laid out very well and have quite a few helpful exercises throughout, as well as a chapter review at the end of each chapter. It not only gives you coping resources and both little known & common information about C-PTSD, but it also gives you a rundown of your treatment options and goal setting. This is by far the best book I’ve read about C-PTSD and my therapist agrees. We’ve actually worked it into my therapy because it’s so helpful! Do yourself a favour and read this if you struggle with C-PTSD.

Terrible.

This “workbook” isn’t for people who have trauma. It’s written with one specific person who has trauma in mind: herself. Also very superficial. I cringed when I read the line about moms with PTSD being anxious or overprotective. What self-forgiving nonsense and inappropriate, given that C PTSD usually happens in the context of family and happens to kids. I.e. her target audience is moms like her focused on their own suffering, not children who might have a mom like her. Target audience is clearly “white middle aged adult women with young kids.” Didn’t relate, also info seemed simplistic
