So much excellent material in this book

The Complete Dentist is a must for all dentists. So much excellent material in this book. What I liked the most is Dr. Polansky’s concept of the human side of dentistry. So much of dental education is directed towards the technical side of dentistry as he describes. This both lacks fulfillment for the patient and the practitioner. My complaint…..so much good information that I will need to re- read this book a couple of times to gather as many pearls as possible.

Barry Polansky’s The Complete Dentist is the complete guide to keeping first things first. He has the gift of seeing what nobody else sees and communicating it with amazing clarity. I am constantly challenged to become a better dentist, and human being, when I read his books. I recommend The Complete Dentist to anyone who wants to have a long satisfying career in dentistry and avoid all the hype and “the latest thing” mentality.

This is not only the most thorough compilation of great advice for life in dentistry but possibly for any endeavor. Barry Polansky is one of the most well-read people I know and he shares his search for meaning in our work in a most complete way. This book will go on my shelf as a book that references all the great minds that have tackled this topic. I have always enjoyed Barry’s writing because as a clinical dentist he has been through all the phases of development and has done an exhaustive search for the right formula. The book is dense with information harvested from countless hours of research and contemplation and personal experience. I highly recommend it but don’t expect to absorb it all at once since it is a work that was years in the making. Dentistry is lucky to have someone so passionate about writing and sharing knowledge. It is much like a great literature review or thesis on positive psychology in dentistry

This book is a treasure. I am a fan of Barry Polansky’s books and this is the best yet. He leads the reader through his own journey of discovery and development and provides insight and guidance about what it takes to find a lifetime of happiness in this special profession. Understanding ourselves and all of the people we touch allows us to value our work, appreciate the trust bestowed upon us and develop our unique definition of success. I loved reading this book and highly recommend it.

Dr. Polansky drops numerous psychological pearls on skills of effective communication; communication skills that would benefit anyone dealing with the public. Not bad, but somewhat lenghty. Too many references to his previous books. No shortcuts, or instant receipts, but an intersting approach to practice. Both for young and seasoned professionals
