Attributes of The Case for Keto PDF

For fifty years, the medical establishment has preached the same rules for losing weight: restrict calories, eat less, and exercise more. Yet in that time, obesity in the United States has skyrocketed. So why has this prescription so clearly failed The Case for Keto PDF

Based on twenty years of investigative reporting and interviews with more than a hundred practicing physicians who embrace ketogenic (low-carbohydrate, high-fat) eating as the best formula for health, here bestselling author Gary Taubes puts the keto movement in the necessary historical and scientific perspective. He makes clear the vital misconceptions about obesity and diet (no, people do not become fat simply by eating too much or being sedentary; hormones play the critical role) and uses collected clinical experience from the medical community to provide much-needed practical advice on healthy eating.

A groundbreaking manifesto for the fight against obesity and diabetes, in The Case for Keto, Taubes reveals why the established rules about eating healthfully might be the wrong approach to weight loss for most people, and how ketogenic diets can help many of us achieve and maintain a healthy weight for life.

The long-awaited new book by Gary Taubes
December 31, 2020

Fans of Gary Taubes will already be familiar with a lot of the material in his newest book from having read Good Calories, Bad Calories and The Case Against Sugar. What sets the book apart is the focus on the practical results of a low-carb-high-fat/ketogenic diet. While it’s true that we don’t know, and may never know, if LCHF/ketogenic way of eating will add years to our lives, we do know that it makes us healthier right now. The recurring message of this book is that those of us who fatten easily no matter what we eat (except LCHF/keto) need to stop taking dietary advice from lean people who are lean no matter what they eat. We have a metabolic disorder, and they don’t, and they can never know what that’s like.

I have been following a LCHF/keto way of eating for over a year. I’ve dropped over 60 pounds, my chronic reflux has stopped, I have energy to burn, and I will happily eat this way for the rest of my life.

Taubes does it again!
December 31, 2020

When Gary Taubes (GT) wrote Good Calories, Bad Calories (GCBC), I was in the middle of a series of clinical research studies involving carbohydrate restriction (low-carb, LCHF, keto). I was trying to reconcile the “data in front of me” that was “going against everything I had been taught.” GCBC stands as a pioneering work; it helped me to understand the socio/politico/scientific gordian knot that led to food generation/consumption that has poisoned generations.
I believe the combination of GT’s book released last year, The Case Against Sugar, and this book, The Case for Keto, will provide the “AHA moment” for many who still haven’t fully grasped that it’s the sugar and starch, not the fat, in the food that is harming us. Our obesity medicine program at Duke is mentioned in The Case for Keto, and so are the many other programs that now use a keto diet. We “rogue” doctors happily reverse medical problems thought to be permanent, and share knowledge in the newly formed Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners. (Not so rogue anymore!)
The Case for Keto is an excellent book that will help in the long-awaited transition from “sick care” to “wellness care.” But it can help the general reader who doesn’t want to wait that long!

Trigger warning for first third

If you have been abused by doctors regarding your weight, The 1st 3rd of this book might cause you traumatic memory, anger, and cortisol release which is not going to help your insulin levels the day you read it . How many times have idiot doctors failed to listen or sneered or called me a liar, rather than trying to figure out why, say, after a year of eating 400 calories a day, and increasing to 800 caused rapid weight regain. Never once did i hear one say, how interesting… Maybe I’ve been wrong. But wrong they were, and they did harm first second and always. If a doctor shows he hates you, i finally grasped, he will abuse you and you should avoid him as you would a brutal spouse. Problem is they all seem hateful and 95% of them are still wrong on the topic. Anyway, i was reminded of how much damage they had done me and how deeply i hate them still and how as a result i never trust anything any doctor says and avoid them unless copious amounts of blood are involved.

The rest of it is much the same as his other books, and you maybe familiar with it, but it is worth reading this nevertheless to remind you why avoiding carbohydrates is really best for you.

I am not sure how convincing it would be to someone stuck in the old senseless Lowfat/a calorie is a calorie paradigm. I fear it’s preaching to the choir.

Intellectual honesty

I read this book on Kindle. There are many low carb books out there, most or many have half the book filled with recipes and other fillers. Not this book. It does what it sets out to do: it makes a honest case for low carb eating. I will try keto again, maybe stick it out longer this time! The Case for Keto PDF

Very persuasive, very personal, wonderfully written
December 31, 2020

I like this book. He’s such a wonderful writer. His first book changed my eating habits by pointing out that cultures that ate their native diets started to get obese and diabetic when they started importing sugar, flour, and seed oils.
This book is much more fun to read than the other three he wrote which are also about restricting carbohydrates. It’s quite personal, a little less science heavy, and the humor is delightful. But even after having read the other three books, I’ve learned a lot from this one.

How to think about keto!
December 30, 2020

And excellent update on the LCHF/keto lifestyle. Improves our collective understanding of the subject.

Thanks to Gary Taubes I learned the importance of insulin in health and illness. It has totally revolutionized my practice. I was keto when keto wasn’t cool. Now the trick is to keep spreading the news.

The Case for Keto will be my book of the year 2021. Planning to buy a bunch of copies for my physician colleagues.
