He pioneered the field with observations on Helicobacter species in animals, from the time when only one spiral gastric bac- rium was known, “Campylobacter pyloridis. ” Fox partners with Wang, whose team recently announced a dramatic advance in the field of carcinogenesis—the obser- tion that bone marrow–derived stem cells participate in the changes that become cancer. To this nice mix has been added Andy Giraud from my own country, who brings to the table some remarkable genetic models of gastric cancer based on alterations in the gp130/stat3-signaling pathway. The Authors

James Fox is an art historian and Fellow of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. Educated at Cambridge and Harvard, he received his PhD in History of Art from the University of Cambridge in 2009 with a dissertation entitled ‘Business unusual: art in Britain during the First World War, 1914 1918’. His research has been supported by grants and fellowships from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the British Art Center at Yale University, and Churchill College, Cambridge. Fox has published widely on the cultural history of the First World War and modern British art and has presented papers on the subjects in Europe, the United States and Canada. Fox appears frequently in the media: he has written for The Times, The Telegraph and The Independent, and is a BAFTA- and Royal Television Society-nominated documentary filmmaker for the BBC. OK book, but if you are in the Research area, then get it!

The book material is overall good, but it goes very often, if not full pages, of research examples and some “possible” interactions or “studies are investigating mechanisms of action’, that it looses its main purpose; to teach you the core characteristics of the drugs and implications in anesthesia, evidence based, information.
If you are doing Research in the Pharmacology & Physiology in Anesthesia, then is a book I would recommend. If you are becoming a Anesthesiologist or Nurse Anesthetist, then look for another book, or get the handbook version of this book. The handbook version is more straight to the point without all the stories and “possible”, “one scenario found…” “data has been collecting…” “theories are still under investigation” and any other paragraph of that kind will not be part of the Handbook, Straight forward info.

Dense and Lacking Organization

With material this detailed and, at times, difficult, a different organization would be helpful. This text didn’t seem to flow or have discernible sections for review. There were no chapter summaries or review questions. There is a companion handbook that some of my classmates found to help flesh out key information; however, at this cost, I shouldn’t need another text to augment my learning. Not even close to my favorite anesthesia text.

Easy read but my professor indicated the number of errors in the book and how outdated it is. We rarely if ever used it. 🤷🏽

Professor chose this book for our pharmacology of anesthesia class. Many of my classmates and I found it disorganized and difficult to follow, it even contradicts itself at some points.

Used the book for an anesthesia physiology course, so this review does not consider much of the pharmacology portion. The book provides a decent overview of physiology but is fraught with contradictions, errors, and typographical errors, making it a confusing read. Cannot recommend.

Great book for pharmacology. Very detailed. Better physiology books available

Expected to receive the International version, sent the south asian version. Probably contains the same information, only difference would be price ( i was charged international version prices by GGN books).
