Waste of time. Buy the original

It pains me to rate this book so low, as I’m a fan of Dr. Chapman. But this book is the exact same book as the original, but with fictional modifications to the same stories. just get the original, it reads better, doesnt incorrectly use military jargon, and even if the original stories are fake, at least they sound real.

After reading the original 5 love languages I was expecting this one to be filled with good ideas to help in my long distance military relationship. I was sorely disappointed that the entire intro of this book was almost cut and paste of the original book with the scenario changed to a military spouse, but the exact same conversation word for word that occurs in the start of the original. Really devalues the work. This book isn’t bad, but if you are looking to buy this after reading the original don’t waste your time or money. If you haven’t read the original, then buy this one if you want military specific and just disregard purchasing the original.

Great Book for anyone with a relationship

My partner and I found this book to be very helpful, however we did notice the author often assumes the military service member is male. Every since reading this book it has helped us understand each other a little bit and has given us insights on how to fill each other’s love tanks. We found that we have the same love languages, but we express them differently. The book helped us with ideas on how to fulfill each other when we are away for long distances of time. We recommend this book to all looking to strengthen their bond with their spouse.

I got this book for my son and daughter-in-law. My son is active duty Navy. My daughter-in-law told me “This book was exactly what they needed!” She also said “Our communication is much more open because the book has taught us(them) how to communicate in the manner of which the other person needs to understand what the other is trying to convey.” Yes, it’s written by Gary Chapman, but it’s not filled with biblical teaching. Couples who are military have a bunch more obstacles than couples who are not military. There is another book in this series called “The Five Languages of Love.” I recommend both books!

I already have a copy I ordered directly from thrift books site a few months ago, and decided that my boyfriend needed his own copy before his upcoming deployment! We initially planned to just use mine but this book is so vital that I decided he needed his own.. and he received it in perfect condition and like 10 days sooner than expected! Love thrift books!

This book is absolutely fantastic. I ordered two copies, one for me and one for my boyfriend in his AIT training. I have completed it and I think it has great advice and helps put things in perspective. He’s started reading it and he’s also said that he thinks it’s helpful. Already some of the techniques in the book have strengthened our bond. Additionally, I was happy to find a military couple book that wasn’t very religious, as most of the books are (we’re an agnostic couple, and this book is still helpful, and would also help non-Christian religious couples too) It’s targeted for married couples but it works just the same for couple who are not married yet. I would recommend it to anyone in need of it.

Fantastic book for military couples

The dynamic in a marriage is filled with ups and downs, and it becomes very easy to get into a place where things start to fall apart from miscommunication and misunderstanding. Add the military to that situation and the issues go up exponentially. This adaptation of the original 5 Love Languages is a great way for those couples that face the unique aspects of military life to reconnect and rekindle the love and passion they may have lost along the way. I always recommend this book to my friends and peers whenever they start to face issues. My wife and I re-read it every couple years just for a quick check up and check in, and it has made such a difference in our life together.
