Textbook of Preventive and Social Medicine PDF

Features of Textbook of Preventive and Social Medicine PDF

This book is presented as a new book in its second edition. The entire approach is epidemiological and the subject matter is presented in a linked and continuous manner. The language and style are simple, and attractive with emphasis on practical aspects which may be of utility not only to PHC medical officers and health administrators but even to general practitioners. The whole book is divided into four parts. The first part deals with the general aspects of preventive and social medicine and its scope and basic concepts in community medicine. The second part, comprising two-third of the book, is built around the epidemiological triad. The third part deals with demography, vital statistics and biostatistics. The fourth part is devoted to health care of different groups, and includes detailed discussion of primary health care, health policy and the relation between health and development. The above division is objective and purposeful. It makes the reader familiar with the essential course content of community medicine, inculcates in him the epidemiological approach to health and disease, and prepares him to practise family medicine as a family physician. In order to fulfill this perceived need, the following topics have been written up in detail and are included herewith, to be distributed as an addendum to the third edition: (i) Epidemiological study design, (ii) Biomedical Waste Management, (iii) Anthrax and bio-terrorism, (iv) Nosocomial infections, (v) Oral diseases, (vi) Disaster management. Special attention has been paid to the chapters on social environment, host factors and health, non-communicable diseases, food and nutrition, demography and vital statistics, health policy, planning management and administration, primary health care, health education, information and communication, maternity and child health, school health, geriatrics, mental health and health service through general practitioners so as to present the concerned topic in a most up-to-date and easily comprehensible manner. This book is found useful for students, teachers, public health administrators and PHC medical officers. Textbook of Preventive and Social Medicine PDF

Best way to get huge amounts of delicious nutrition in just a couple of bites!
September 7, 2020

Doug Evan’s book is filled with such great information and education on the world’s most nutrient living food—-SEEDS! Easy access, very inexpensive, quick and easy to make and filled with loads of antioxidants, immune boosting elements, protein– you name it! I buy (or used to buy) sprouts from the grocery store or Farmers market not knowing that I could make them myself, and how easy it was. I knew they were healthy….even healthier than their “parents”! Like a handful of broccoli sprouts has the same nutrition as many heads of broccoli! I’m a Plant based nutritionist/chef, cooking school teacher, and I never tried “making” sprouts. Then I met Doug listening to him on the Rich Roll Podcast and got so Inspired that I can make so many different types of sprouts, so much cheaper and more delicious than store bought, I immediately bought the book. I bought some seeds and have sprouted Broccoli, Collard green and alfalfa sprouts. I have red clover, lentils, garbanzo beans, hemp seeds, radish seeds…all at the ready! Seriously…making your own sprouts taste better, and are so much fresher and last longer than store bought. I had no idea! It’s amazing how many seeds there are to sprout and how yummy they are. Want to elevate your dishes? Add sprouts. Plus, it’s fun to “give birth” to these seedlings, watching them turn into powerhouses of delicious nutrition. Talk about empowering! Read the book, get the sprouts and watch your dishes sing and your health SPROUT! There are lots of good recipes in the book too. Doug didn’t leave anything out! He is so caring and brilliant and all about helping people be healthy. You’re in good hands with Doug. Just a handful of sprouts in your salad or eaten plain, or put in a smoothie….increases the nutrient density of your diet and helps us become and stay super healthy. Doug is my new most favorite person! Get the book, get inspired, get healthy and thrive! Thank you Doug for you!

Couldn’t have been a better time to be reading and following the message of this book. Living in NYC, at least I am able to live my dream of gardening by sprouting.
Love the book very much!

some reference errors, but otherwise a very helpful book
March 26, 2021

Pros: I didnt know much about sprouts, and this book was sufficient to get me started. It includes what they are, differences between microgreens, handy charts for how long to let them grow for, and a breakdown of different trays or containers that would be best (e.g. clay tray for chia seeds since they gel up).

Cons: 1) The interview pieces are spread throughout the book, and are inconveniently located right in the middle of sections. I was confused at first till I realized what they were. 2) Not all references match up, probably d/t oversights in editing. For example, early in the book, it mentions references on page 235 for more sites on growing trays and seeds but they actually start on 233. Multiple references to the resources in back of book are wrong, so may need to just go back and mark the index, resources, etc for yourself.

With that said, I still reccommend this book because it was highly useful!

Self-Empowerment through Sprouts!
April 19, 2020

Doug’s zest for sprouting pours through the pages of this wonderful guide to bringing nature into our kitchens! The book is simple, yet comprehensive and makes growing sprouts and micro greens easily accessible to everyone. This guide inspirited me to up my sprouting game and to start growing microgreens well- instead of just buying them at the store. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we all empower ourselves by growing our own food, and sprouts are definitely the most attainable and affordable way to do this. I definitely recommend The Sprout Book!
