 I love this flip chart

I have a bigger chart with no descriptions which is great for groups, however it’s nice to have this information available to stay focused on the psycho education and not forget important details. My clients love this also!

Great for exactly as the description says

Description is exactly what you get, no extra – nothing for baseline understanding to clinical level. Perfect for some, but do not think you will to be able to use without prior training
 Perfect for visual in sessions.

Easy to understand and graphics are excellent for furthering points. You need this if you work with those impacted by trauma

 Find Yourself!

January 23, 2022

I’ve been following Stephen Porges Polyvagal theory for about 5 years now. I’ve read most of his books and I troll the internet for his myriad podcasts. He is the avatar of my dear departed dad. I’m still reading this newest book but want to weigh in that the polyvagal theory will give you your life back if you are an anxious nervous nelly type like me. Discovering how our neuroception informs our physiology which triggers either defense or safety and social engagement has helped me understand myself more than anything else. It has also given me tools to recover my sense of calm self agency. Now I am not afraid of people which I’ve always been pretty shy around people and never trusted myself to be as good as others. Now I realize that people who are biologically rude have made me feel ashamed of my innate friendliness and it isn’t because I am dumb but rather they are just unencumbered by the polyvagal understanding that being nice to others helps the world go round!

 Not self-help

March 1, 2019

I dont have a somatic psychotherapist. I thought this would be helpful for me in giving me tools and practices to do the work on my own. It looks like a really awesome resource, but it’s written and designed for professionals and over half the worksheets are either work for the practitioner alone or dependant on the practitioner for guidance/direction. Not what I expected and not useful for me as a patient.

 Good, But for Different Reasons

April 12, 2019

Okay, this is NOT a self help book. It’s not a workbook to help with clients. It’s a clinician’s guide. I was not clear on that when I bought it. Just wanted to put that out there in case you’re thinking the same thing.

Somewhere I saw that this was going to revolutionize the way I practice. I couldn’t pass that up! So, I got it and read it and it was incredibly valuable, but not for the reasons that I anticipated. I thought it was going to give me new techniques to use in every session. What it did was help me to realize how it feels to be on the receiving end of therapy. The things in this book are things I do naturally because this is how I live. We see the world through our own lens. I had no idea what it was like to NOT live this way, so it’s given me new compassion for those who are so disconnected from their bodies and feelings. Great resource for that.
