Improvement but the cover is flimsy.
July 30, 2017

I held off buying the newer editions of Tabers. Mine old book is Edition 16. Edition 16 was published in 1989. It was time. I’m taking RHIT courses. I purchased this edition and as Prime promised, it was delivered on Sunday. I immediately began comparating. The new edition is not necessarily thumb tabbed as the old one. It’s thumb colored. I took pictures comparing the 2. The word ‘sodium’ is on page 1700 in the old book. In the new it is on page 2181. The cover in the 23rd edition is flimsy. The cover in the 16th edition is more like a dictionary. There are more definitions that are updated in the new book. I’ve taken a picture to demonstrate the definition ‘fracture’. The difference is totally improved and updated. The new edition is really improved. The cover already bends slightly and that’s why I gave it 4 stars. I’ve taken pictures of both editions that explains what I am writing about the covers. But I love the fresh improvements, pages, colored pictures. They did a good job with the 23rd edition except the flimsy cover.

So disappointed in this book! $20 wasted!
January 10, 2018

Totally disappointed in this book. I have my LPN and am now in medical coding classes. I’ve looked up diseases, anatomy and other terms. They weren’t in this book. Several other students in my classes have told our professors to stop recommending Taber’s. Basically, it’s useless and won’t come in handy when we take out national certification exams. I’m going to toss this in the trash and find a better, usable book!

The Kindle Version Lacks Effective Search and any Hyperlinks
January 11, 2018

Note that the Kindle version is lacking in two regards:

First, it is impractical to use the search capability. For a representative example, if you look up ‘etiology’ you’ll have to scroll through 175 hits on definitions that use the word ‘etiology’ before getting to the main entry, and it will not be distinguished from the other hits except by the fact that the pronunciation follows the entry in parenthesis, so it’ll be easy to miss. Searching for ‘etiology (‘ in an attempt to find the main entry followed by the pronunciation in parentheses does no better–punctuation seems to be ignored. The search results need to put the main entry at the top, or there needs to be a special search for main entries. Usually I end up going to the Table of Contents and picking the initial letter corresponding to the word I’m looking up, which is no better than using a hard-copy dictionary.

Second, note that none of the cross-references are hyperlinked.

Great dictionary, but search term function does not work using Kindle Fire HD 8 (7th generation)
September 13, 2018

If I were to pick any single medical dictionary as my favorite, it would–of course–be a very difficult choice. But Taber’s would certainly be in the top 3 IF the search function worked in the version I recently purchased for my Kindle Fire HD 8 (7th generation). Nor can I adjust the font size on the Kindle Fire, but I get around that by positioning the device in landscape mode.If the the search term function cannot be fixed, the table of contents should list more than just A, B, C, D, etc. It should list A, Ab, Ae, Af, Ag, etc., and the same for other letters that the medical terms begin with.
I also use the same version on Kindle for PC. The search term function in Kindle for PC works fine, and I can adjust the page/font size easily. But of course, I would like the same thing on my Kindle Fire HD 8 (7th generation). This is the 23rd edition, published in 2017, purchased for Kindle on .

Outstanding, must have easy reference
August 14, 2020

I have had various additions of this wonderful reference going back to 1992. It truly is invaluable with its thorough descriptions suitable for an encyclopedia and for simple dictionary type meanings of medical terminology. Well worth the cost, very highly recommended.

I like the 22nd edition much better
August 5, 2017

I bought the “hardcover” version, and it’s basically just a thicker, laminated paper version. The pages are MUCH thinner and more flimsy than the 22 edition. I like the 22nd edition much better.

Easy to use and has everything medical from a to z. Only drawback is that it is so thick it’s hard to fit in my backpack with my other text books and the print can be small.

It’s a great thing to have if you’re in a medical field
December 19, 2017

It’s a great thing to have if you’re in a medical field, but the cover is so flimsy and it bends so badly. Wish they made it as a hard cover like they advertised. They should go back to making the covers like they did a while ago with these dictionarys

4 stars for whats inside the book ; 3 stars for how the book is PHYSICALLY SPEAKING
Reviewed in India on April 10, 2017

I ordered this medical dictionary on 18 March 2017 and it arrived at my door on 10 April 2017. The content inside this dictionary is simply awesome as well as extremely detailed and extensive. This med dictionary is a must_have for just about anybody who wishes to stay updated with medical terminologies. It was actually my 89 year old grandfather (paternal grandfather) for whom I purchased this book via India. He, an F∙R∙C∙P∙ from Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh [he (my grand-dad) was infact one of the brightest students of none other than Sir John Crofton when he (my grandpa) had been happening to getting his M∙R∙C∙P∙ degree from Royal College, Edinburgh], happens to be a retired former Professor of Medicine and (once) used to be the Head of Respiratory\Chest Diseases Department {during the 70s and 80s decade} at I∙P∙G∙M∙E∙R∙ cum S∙S∙K∙M∙ Hospital Kolkata {more popularly known as P∙G∙ Hospital} ————— well, he (my grandfather) also served as the H∙o∙D∙ of the Respiratory Medicine Department of Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (C∙M∙C∙H∙) too. Although he is from the Medical profession itself, however, I would still like to admit [having myself gone through this dictionary] that this medical dictionary is actually for all and sundry. He did however say that some of the things he was wishing for aren’t contained \ covered in this book and which is why we (I and him) are planning to go for Dorland’s Medical Dictionary {which is an even more detailed \ comprehensive dictionary than this Taber’s Cyclopedic one} when its (Dorland waalaa’s) newest edition will come out during mid 2018. Dorland’s Illustrated Medical Dictionary, International Edition

Now, as far as the physique of the book is concerned, it was much below the expectations. What we got \ received was neither a hardcover nor a paperback. Moreover, my grandpa was also miffed at the fact that this dictionary \ book has infact been printed in China. The page quality ain’t any appreciable, either. To add to all such negative points, the price was too high ―――――― we had to pay Rupees 3485 as because we opted for the ‘Cash on Delivery’ mode of payment. Plus, as I have already clarified above, it took a frigging 23 days for this book / dictionary to arrive at our doorstep from the moment of placing the order for this product. Our deliverer [i mean, the seller in our case] was “Atlantic Publishers and Distributors”.
