ROSe “this book is really a psychological equivolent of the title mentioned above in many ways including the demanding boss. It’s predictably obvious in places as well such as the certainty that she’d not get the job indicating that,, of course she would. Mind you, I find it hard to believe that, even with so fe alternatives anyone would put of with the kind of crap that the housekeeper does. I know I’d much rather sleep in a ditch never mind a car than tolerate some of the things the central character is prepared to put up with. Yet she survived ten years in prison. Interesting, that’s all i have to say by way of comment. I wrote this begfore finishing the book but, I suspect I’m right when i say that Nina is going to blow up over some wrongdoing on Milly’s part involving her and Andrew or Enzo since she’s totally obsessive as well as being manipulative. As for those hackneyed phrases such as jaw dropping, nerve shredding, un-putdownable, I don’t think so. I really should know better by now than to trust or even believe such outdated trite phrases of description. They’re never true. The twists aren’t so shocking as all that at least, not to me anyway.”
PAul S “I am not at all surprised by how many positive reviews The Housemaid has received to date. It is a terrific psychological thriller with a plot that is full of dramatic, and menacing, twists and with great characterisation. It was very easy to visualise each of the main characters as well as the house and rooms where all the action takes place and the various events as they unfold. For this, the author must be commended.
Having said this though, I must admit that I almost gave up on the story about half way through as I began to find the storyline rather depressing and I found myself wondering if the main character, the housemaid, would really put up with all that was being heaped upon her, especially given her background. But I am glad I didn’t as the plot really takes off in a dramatic fashion in part two and I found myself wanting to race ahead to find out what happens next … and I really liked the final twist that appears in the epilogue.
So, overall, this really is an unputdownable thriller and certainly one of the best I have read so far this year. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys stories that are full of chilling menace, great characters and dramatic twists as the story unfolds.”
BARb “Absolutely a true psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist in every sense of the word. I have to say, I just finished the last page of this book and I already want to read it again. I have just a few very favorite authors and Frieda McFadden is in the top two. But this book may have pushed her to number one. I love all of this author’s books. When I hear that a new book written by her is coming out,I wait patiently until release day and I snap it up the same day. This book is my new favorite of hers. It was just so good! The sequence of events just floored me and I absolutely couldn’t put it down. Everything I thought I knew as I was reading was proven wrong. VERY WRONG! I am positive that you will not see that twist coming. Buy this book! And if you haven’t read her other books GET THEM NOW! After you read this book you’re going to binge read her other books because you will realize she is soon to be one of your top two very favorite authors. Without a doubt!”
