NOT A STUDY GUIDE!

I know it’s been 15 years since this old man graduated college with a BSN, so I may be out of touch on what a “study guide” is; this seems to be a book full of questions. Yes there is rationale provided for each question. That, however, does not constitute a study guide. There is ABSOLUTELY NO STUDY MATERIAL in this book. There are other books that have actual study material and online question and answer apps to accompany them. But if you think this is a stand alone study guide, please change your mind!

I used this book to study for the SCRN as my primary study method. I also used allegro study book of questions. This one was nice b/c it came with the access code for the app, which helped me study more often on my phone. The app lets you mark question as red green or yellow, to indicate how well you know the info so you can go back and re-do them later. I ended up passing the exam, so i would def recommend this book! Buying the book was cheaper than getting the app access alone.

This book is an excellent Q&A book. It provides detailed rationales and is outlined according to the SCRN certification study blueprint. The only drawback is that the app does not work as indicated on the book; however, access to questions on the computer is awesome, as you could sit and participate in a mock exam setting. Excellent book. Passed certification on the first try. Good add-on study accessory.

The book had some relevant information but did not add anything to the official SCRN book. A lot of the practice questions were way off base and had information that you didn’t need to know. There were also a few questions that had the wrong answer compared to the SCRN book and practice questions. I wouldn’t waste my money on this book and stick to the official guide, which was spot on for the test.

The “online Q&A app included” claim is misleading. With the scratch off code you can access the first section of the book online, however the Q&A is ~$50 extra- and may be the same as in the book. Dont know, I didnt bite. THe book itself is helpful, but overpriced. Must be a college textbook publisher

Product is a questions and answers based book – not a real “study guide.” That being said, the questions and answers truly get you thinking. Passed my SCRN first time. Loved it.

Good resources

Used this book along with “Fast Facts for Stroke Care Nursing” and a powerpoint a friend sent from a class. Also have 3 years in a Neuro/Stroke ICU Unit. Passed the SCRN on the first try. These books were good but definitely did not cover some of the specific info that was on the exam. However, I think adequate enough that a person could pass with just using only these two sources.

Nice study tool. But I am using mine on Kindle. Two of the chapters are misplaced. Also the format is a little difficult to use on Kindle. Overall-I like the information, think it is a good study tool. Would not buy a Kindle version if doing it again. The book itself would probably work better in flash card mode.
