Top reviews

Muhammad A. Qureshi “This a very helpful resource to help prep for the shelf and information you will need to know during the rotation. The book is broken into sections to help review individual topics. The best part is you do not need to flip pages to see explanations to the answers given. After every question, you can see the answer below. The answers come with detailed explanations for the both the right and wrong answer choices. The book is also small enough to carry with you in your white coat. So if you ever get some down time, you can do a few questions. There is also a good 100 question practice exam in the back; however, there are not explanations for those answers. There are also few errata that I found in the book and 2-3 of the answers they give for that 100 question exam may also be wrong (this is the only reason I did not give a 5 star). However, I think if you use this book and q-bank questions together, you should easily score in the 80th percentile or better on this shelf. Also, pre-test is a big “NO” for this shelf, so you will need an addition question bank such as shelf life for this exam. This is definitely worth the investment if trying to honor this rotation and I would highly recommend this to anyone preparing for the Ob/gyn shelf”
Claire Louise Kiernan “Another excellent resource courtesy of Shelf-life. As with the other books in the series, this one is divided into major topics, ranging from preventive care & screening/surveillance to OBGYN to neoplasia (and lots in between). I like these text for a variety of reasons: a) it’s slender and light enough to actually fit into a white coat pocket without causing shoulder strain (thanks a lot, pretest…) b) the questions are VERY similar to those of the shelf exam (though shelf-life tends to give more detail in the stem than the shelf exam, which I find helpful in the learning/test prep process) c) the explanations are concise d) the pictures/FHR tracings/other misc diagrams are in color and are easy to read (unlike my experience on uworld), and e) in addition to the plethora of questions with immediate answers through most of the book, there’s a practice exam at the end where the topics are jumbled a la the shelf exam.

In short, this is an excellent shelf resource that I would use first, followed by Uworld or Uwise (if your school, like mine, subscribed to it).”

Acauz “Great questions with through explanations. I didn’t like the formatting though. I found myself looking at the answers before I finished reading the questions. Although the questions prepared me for the OB/GYN portion of the shelf exam, it ignored a lot of the internal medicine tested on the shelf (most question books do though). Overall, the best part of the book was the explanation to the questions. Formatting needs work though.”
