The Authors

Rainbow Six John Clark Novel A Book 2 PDF

A little more than thirty years ago Tom Clancy was a Maryland insurance broker with a passion for naval history. Years before, he had been an English major at Baltimore’s Loyola College and had always dreamed of writing a novel. His first effort, The Hunt for Red October, sold briskly as a result of rave reviews, then catapulted onto the New York Times bestseller list after President Reagan pronounced it “the perfect yarn.” From that day forward, Clancy established himself as an undisputed master at blending exceptional realism and authenticity, intricate plotting, and razor-sharp suspense. He passed away in October 2013.

A movie of this would be better than the book.

The bad guys in the novel are “tree-huggers”–people willing to kill billions of humans–absurd premise for a story. I couldn’t help but resent the ridiculous portrayal of environmentalists, but otherwise the story is interesting and the action is exciting. Some parts are boring–when characters second guess themselves over and over. Movies made from his books leave out the boring parts–one of the rare instances in which I prefer the movies to the books.

A bit too much like reality…
May 10, 2021

I read this book 15 months into the Covid pandemic: too close for comfort, given the death toll & aftermath effects. Obviously, well researched & very well written. The ‘good guy’ characters are noble; the ‘bad guys’ are painted as fanatics, sociopaths. Popov is quite interesting…not a bad sort, but possessing noble values: fortunately, those win out and help Clark, et al.
This really good action novel, however, suffers from too much realism. Our science can create such book threat, though the delivery technology is there, yet.
This is far different from the first John Clark novel. While I would like a more familiar sequel, this current book does contain the sense of connection between the 2 entries in the series…but only just.
Mr Clancy seemingly had a pet project, pet concern, which he dealt with, here.

Could This Book Have Been a Paste-Up Of Multiple Clark/ Ryan Subplots?
April 14, 2020

It sure reads like an anthology to me. Primarily there’s Rainbow, an international counterterrorist force. First they deal with a politics-flavored bank robbery in Switzerland. Then an attack on an Austrian financier in his palatial mansion. Along the way they deal with an attack on a Disney-type European theme park. An overarching story of a plot by radical environmentalists who cook up a disease to destroy the human race because we’re the ones destroying the environment. Ryan books have always been a blend of semi-related subplots, but in those other books they’ve been interrelated to create the whole story. This one reads like Clancy assembled a bunch of John Clark subplots which were edited out of those other books. Kind of like a musical group will make a rarities album out of songs that didn’t make the albums they were originally recorded for.

As pertinent today as it was when it was written 20 years ago….
September 17, 2019

This book was written about 20 years ago but it is actually about stuff that is going on today. Ebola in Africa and the Green New Deal in the US are both topics that are similar topics in the book. The book takes it a little farther, of course. Well written and keeps you engaged. Also follows up on John Clark’s wife and one of his daughters in more detail. The President of the United States is only mentioned in passing a couple of times. This is truly a book about John Clark and his family. And the job he does.

VINE VOICE
Audible Audio Book Edition
September 15, 2017

One of my favorite Tom Clancy books. The Audible edition is one that I listen to just about once every year. Michael Prichard is the narrator for this and many of the other Tom Clancy books in this series. He does a great job with the voices for the different characters. I’m happy to have this book (both Kindle & Audible edition) in my collection. The counter terrorist strike force story is well thought out and the action holds your attention.

Another great Clancy story
April 12, 2018

After years working covert missions with the CIA, John Clark and his new son-in-law Domingo Chavez are heading to England with their wives to start a new mission: Clark has gotten the approval of the President (unnamed, but Jack Ryan) to start a multi-national counter-terrorism unit to be based in the UK (Ding is one of the response team leaders). Almost immediately, the unit is put into action due to an upswing of terrorist activity across Europe. What, or who, is responsible for all of these incidents and why? Why are people being kidnapped in the US and forced to undergo medical experimentation? The answers, when they come, threaten to change the world forever.

*The 2000 Sydney Olympics are a major plot thread, so that element dates the book just a bit, but otherwise things stand up well. One of my favorites in the series.
