Attributes of Psycholinguistics: Introduction and Applications 2nd Edition PDF

Psycholinguistics: Introduction and Applications 2nd Edition PDF is the first textbook in psycholinguistics created for working language professionals and students in speech-language pathology and language education, as well as for students in psychology and linguistics. It provides a clear, lively introduction to research and ideas about how human brains process language in speaking, understanding, and reading. Within a unifying framework of the constant interplay of bottom-up (sensory) and top-down (knowledge-based) processing across all language uses and modalities, it is an integrated, self-contained, fully updated account of psycholinguistics and its clinical and pedagogical applications. In this second edition, author Lise Menn is joined by leading brain researcher and aphasiologist, Nina Dronkers. The significantly revised brain chapter contains current findings on brain structure and function, including the roles of newly-delineated fiber tracts and language areas outside Broca’s and Wernicke’s areas.Five core chapters (language description, brain structure and function, early and later stages of speech production, experimental psycholinguistics) form the foundation for chapters presenting classical and recent research on aphasia, first language development, reading, and second language learning. A final chapter demonstrates how linguistics and psycholinguistics can and should inform classroom and clinical practice in test design and error analysis, while also explaining the care that must be taken in translating theoretically based ideas into such real-world applications. Concepts from linguistics, neurology, and experimental psychology are kept vivid by illustrations of their uses in the real world, the clinic, and language teaching. Technical terms are clearly explained in context and also in a large reference glossary. The text is now accompanied by a web-based Student Workbook. The Instructor’s Manual, also new, is flexibly organized for instructors and students of varying backgrounds.

Key Features:

  • Written in clear, vivid, straightforward style by experienced professors with varying student needs and instructor backgrounds in mind

  • Companion website has sound files, help with learning the International Phonetic Alphabet and anatomical terms, color versions of text figures, and a compact version of the experimental psycholinguistics section for students with backgrounds in psychology

Written with Clarity and Well Illustrated
July 15, 2021

This book is written with such clarity one does not need a medical background to understand it. That said, it deals with a complex subject so you should not expect a brisk read. You WILL need to read each sentence carefully and take things one step at a time. Don’t expect to become an amateur cardiologist in one evening. But you will not be confused. This book is user friendly.

Though it is well illustrated, I suggest serious readers and print out a basic map of the heart to keep at hand, especially in reading the opening section on how it work.

Included here is a comprehensive catalogue of symptoms of many different heart problems, with the symptoms of each and how they are depicted on an EKG. If you or someone you love has heart disease, and you want to learn as much about the problem as possible, this is a very good place to start. Recommended.

A top class study text with 300 illustrations
June 29, 2021

The author team carefully reviewed any and every detail of this study guide. It stands out from average books in this category with over 300 own illustrations. Indeed, there was a team of authors behind. They created a study text that will teach you very quickly everything about EKG.

This book was bought as a gift to my niece to help her with some of her college classes. It was clear, well-illustrated, and helpful when I read it. You’ll learn how to read ECGs to notice anything out of the ordinary.

Very Insightful
July 15, 2021

This book had the detailed breakdown of complex information that’s needed for EKG and ECG interpretation. Not only it has illustrations, but it has easy to digest descriptions that helps any reader understand the information. Overall it’s a very helpful book to read.

Not too basic, not too complex, worth having
July 9, 2021

The book is well written with sufficient pathophysiological explanations to make the changes on the ECG easier to understand.

Illustrations in color would have made certain diagrams easier to understand, but that would drive up the price of the book. Overall well worth adding to your library.

Graphis are comprehensive

Almost too full for overview classes that RNs would take, but comprehensive as a Reference Book.
