Attributes of Principles of Biostatistics 2nd Edition PDF
This edition is a reprint of the second edition published in 2000 by Brooks/Cole and then Cengage Learning. Principles of Biostatistics 2nd Edition PDF
Principles of Biostatistics is aimed at students in the biological and health sciences who wish to learn modern research methods. It is based on a required course offered at the Harvard School of Public Health. In addition to these graduate students, many health professionals from the Harvard medical area attend as well.
The book is divided into three parts. The first five chapters deal with collections of numbers and ways in which to summarize, explore, and explain them. The next two chapters focus on probability and introduce the tools needed for the subsequent investigation of uncertainty. It is only in the eighth chapter and thereafter that the authors distinguish between populations and samples and begin to investigate the inherent variability introduced by sampling, thus progressing to inference. Postponing the slightly more difficult concepts until a solid foundation has been established makes it easier for the reader to comprehend them.

Marcello Pagano is Professor of Statistical Computing in the Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health. His research in biostatistics is on computer intensive inference and surveillance methods that involve screening methodologies, with their associated laboratory tests, and in obtaining more accurate testing results that use existing technologies.
Kimberlee Gauvreau is Associate Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Gauvreau’s research focuses on biostatistical issues arising in the field of pediatric cardiology. She also works on the development and validation of methods of adjustment for case mix complexity.

Do Not Buy Kindle Version- do not expect answers for review/end of chapter questions

I will start by saying do not ever waste your money on the kindle version. The quality is absolutely atrocious and you will barely be able to read entire chapters because the text quality is blurry and/or cut off. You can work your way through it and it is usable…I guess, but I paid over $80 and expect a quality book on par with a paper version. I would have rejected and returned it but I did not have time to have a hard copy shipped to me before my class started.
The kindle really does not to that well with text books in general in my opinion, it is easier to use a physical book or a pdf than the kindle for these books.
The quality of the material in the book is fine. It gives formulas and examples you can work through. I have not had any trouble understanding or relating the material, so if I were just rating the material I would have rated about a 4.
My only other complaint is you will not have answers to ANY of the practice problems. You will have no tools to practice the formulas or practical application. This makes it difficult to learn for most people. There is no kindle answer guide that you can purchase separately either (although I would also be angry if there was one because it is such a scam way to pocket rob students since you can’t cover all “accessory books” with loans or student aid….)

Es wird erst ein Beispiel gegeben und dann die gezielte Idee geklärt. Oft sind die Beispiele allerdings sehr lang und unübersichtlich. Die mathematische Notationen sind katastrophal! Zum Beispiel: “P(AC)=n-mn=1-mn=1-P(A)” !! anscheinend ist damit gemeimt: P(~A)=(n-m)/n=1-m/n=1-P(A) … und davon gibt es viel!!
