almost like a standalone question bank (ie Uworld)

Kindle version makes this much more usable, almost like a standalone question bank (ie Uworld), since you can flip back and forth between question and answer by just clicking hyperlinks instead of flipping back and forth with a physical book. Price wasn’t bad for kindle rental either. The only downside is that when you click the number to see the corresponding answer, sometimes you’ll see part of the answer to the next question if you have wandering eyes. Not a huge problem, just kind of annoying.

Decent Book, but doesn’t focus on what you need

The question stems were similar in length and style in comparison to how they would be on an NBME.
A lot of useful information but also mixed in with superfluous teaching points.Disclaimer: Can’t speak for other people’s experience on their NBME….
Contrary to the book, there wasn’t much neuro or genetics stuff I encountered on my exam. Not much biochemistry either.
I also wish it would have focused more in regards to pathophysiology and management of major organ systems rather than simply identifying diseases and conditions. This is what the NBME seems to primarily consider on their exams.
But all in all, I would still recommend that students use this book for content and to improve your fund of knowledge. Not something to rely on; would be prudent to supplement w/ first aid or blueprints.

Gets you what you need for the Shelf

I took the Peds shelf late in my 3rd year, which was a really big help. That said, this book provided the material necessary to do well on the test (mid 80s) and get an A- for the course. My only complaints are the same as for the rest of the pretest series:
1. They should provide more pictures
2. They should have tabs/indents or something to make it easy to thumb back and forth between the answer page and the questions for those of us who check our answers after every couple of questions.
