Attributes of Pregnancy Childbirth and the Newborn PDF

Available for the first time in full color, the up-to-date and authoritative pregnancy guide that has sold 1.5 million copies–by recognizing that “one size fits all” doesn’t apply to maternity care Pregnancy Childbirth and the Newborn PDF

Parents love this book because it puts them in control; experts love it because it’s based on the latest medical research and recommendations from leading health organizations. Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn provides the information and guidance you need to make informed decisions about having a safe and satisfying pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period–decisions that reflect your preferences, priorities, and values.

Unlike pregnancy guides that can overwhelm and alarm by telling you up front all the things that can possibly go wrong, this book first describes normal, healthy processes, their typical variations, and the usual care practices for monitoring them. Only then does it cover possible complications and the care practices and procedures for resolving them. Throughout, the presentation is crystal-clear, the tone is reassuring, and the voice is empowering. And the language is inclusive, reflecting today’s various family configurations such as single-parent families, blended families formed by second marriages, families with gay and lesbian parents, and families formed by open adoption or surrogacy. From sensible nutrition advice to realistic birth plans, from birth doulas when desired to cesareans when needed, from reducing stress during pregnancy to caring for yourself as well as your baby after birth, this pregnancy guide speaks to today’s parents-to-be like no other.

Must-have book for pregnancy

If you buy only one book during your pregnancy, this should be it. Very informative book that covers everything from preconception to week-by-week pregnancy, postpartum and beyond. It gets into detail about what to expect during your pregnancy in terms of your growing body and baby, as well as the tests that are expected along the way and how to endure them. It has a section on breastfeeding which is especially informative for first-time mothers. It also touches on what to expect if you remain pregnant again months after giving birth. The only other essential part of pregnancy that it just briefly speaks of is pregnancy diet and what to eat. There are plenty of other books written about pregnancy nutrition that you can buy so it didn’t really bother me. But a very informative, thick and heavy book, with accurate information that you can rely on every week of your forty week pregnancy. Nice investment of knowledge, and a great addition to your pregnancy library for those like me who stated one!

Comprehensive!

I bought this book for a friend who found herself unexpectedly pregnant. I’ve been reading it a little myself and this is a very thorough and comprehensive book. Goes over everything from conception, biology, development, experiences, conditions, partners, all the different types of births, postpartum, breastfeeding, newborn care, etc. I like the detailed table of contents to easily flip to the part you want to read. I hope she reads it and finds it as informative as I have. I was hesitant to buy a pregnancy and childbirth book because so much info is available online and some would say you no longer need a book but this goes into detail about a number of topics that someone may not know to look up online. I’m also pleased that this book wasn’t expensive.

My favorite Pregnancy/Childbirth book.

Wish I would have purchased this at start of pregnancy. This book is awesome! It is packed with information about pregnancy, childbirth, and caring for your newborn (exactly as the title implies). I really love how much detail this book goes into regarding the labor and delivery process. I would say this book would be especially beneficial for any woman hoping to have a NATURAL childbirth. It goes into great detail about coping techniques etc during the labor process. That being said, if you are planning to get an epidural or even know you will need a c-section, this book would still be extremely informative (mainly for a first time mom-although I’m not saying the info is super basic). The book is full of very detailed info. However, unlike some books that cover such technical info, it does not read like a boring textbook. It also does not read like a goofy “humorous” book where the author is trying to funny in every sentence. I love that the authors made it very easy to read and not boring but didn’t try to be hilarious (which usually ends up being annoying instead of funny).
As far as the Newborn section-I am finding it to be very helpful and informative just as the rest of the book has been. If you only go with one Pregnancy/Childbirth book-this is the one I would invest in. (And I had about 9 between the ones I bought and ones that were given to me).
