New to the Third Edition

  • Material on digital receptors
  • Emphasis on the differences between analogue and digital images
  • Coverage of multi-slice CT and three-dimensional resolution, dual energy applications, and cone beam CT

The Authors

“One of the most useful features is the amount of review material. A series of discussion questions are given at the end of each chapter and six to fourteen multiple-choice questions per chapter are listed in an appendix, with an answer key for all questions and explanatory footnotes for some … On the whole, I found the material to be authoritative, comprehensive, and accurate.”
―Doody Online Reviews

“The book is well written and I recommend it not only to radiologists in training, but also to experienced radiologists and x-ray technicians who would like to update their knowledge in the physics of diagnostic radiology.”
―Lars Jangland

Best study book for new-style FRCR Part 1

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 17, 2004

Going into much more depth than other texts (notably Farr) this great book is perfect for expanding your knowledge of basic physics in preparation for the Part 1 exam. As such, though, it is a little in depth in places and can only be considered as a ‘quick revision book’ by those with an ability to speed read its many pages.
It’s main drawback, unfortunately, relates to its ignorance of the IRMER regulations as it was written just before their introduction. It’s coverage of old IRR regulations should also be remebered and a newer book on both of these topics should be sought to ensure up-to-date knowledge is obtained.
Summary
Overall I found this to be a great book and in conjunction with an MCQ book should be enough to get you through the physics part of the exam.
Positives
* Clear explanations
* Breadth of physics subjects covered
* Sample MCQs included (with answers!)
Negatives
* Not suitable as a quick revision aid
* Does not cover IRR /IRMER
