Reviews From Customers

Noah “This clean colourful and brilliantly layed out volume is an ideal student introduction to questions of patient safety and healthcare improvement. With over 50 contributors, this book covers a great deal in its 124 pages
Starting with the basics of patient safety and then understanding systems, there are a number of essential definitions and discussion points, such as organisational accidents and quality healthcare.
There is a meaningful discussion of human factors, teamwork and communication and a sect ion on reporting and learning from errors.
Sections on understanding and interpreting risk and the wide range of types of risks t patient care are also helpful.
The book concludes with a wide section on quality improvement.
Chapters are colour coded and enhanced by a rich range of illustrations, graphs, charts and tables.
This book is an excellent introduction to the subject and would make the basis of a number of good essays around the general premise. It also gives any medical student or health care professional a welcome reader to the subject.
Highly recommended!”

Jago “Patient Safety and healthcare improvement at a glance, is a short (144 pages) guide to best practice within a care environment. Aimed at medical students and young medics, the book offers a comprehensive guide to establishing a healthcare regime which will fulfill both the legal and ethical criteria demanded within care environments.Authors,Sukhmeet S. Panesar ,Honorary Fellow, Centre for Population Health Sciences, Andrew Carson–Stevens Clinical Lecturer in Healthcare Improvement, Sarah A. Salvilla, Honorary Fellow, Centre for Population and Health Sciences and Aziz Sheikh, Professor of Primary Care Research and Development, guide the student and young graduate through the often confusing maze of rules and regulations set out in current policy documents and offer practical advice on maintaining a programme within their field of work which will be both practical and within guidelines.”

Welshy “This ‘At a Glance’ reference fits in well with the others in this series, having a similar layout and organization. The latest ideas and improvements in patient safety are covered and explained in good detail. It also looks at some of the problems and pitfalls that healthcare providers can fall victim to at all levels of management and experience.

The diagrams are clear and useful, and vital for such complex interactions. If anything it is a little too focused on the provider side, rather than the patient experience, but the latter is of course very subjective and thus hard to truly quantify.

This is a great modern guide to the subject, and should be read by everyone in the field.”
