The Authors

Helmut H. Popper gained his medical degree from the University of Graz, Austria, and subsequently undertook residency and fellowship training at the Institute of Pathology at the university. In 1985 he became Associate Professor of Pathology at the Institute and a year later, Head of the Laboratory of Experimental Pathology. In 1993 Dr. Popper was appointed Professor of Pathology. Subsequent appointments in 2000 and 2008 were, respectively, as Head of Laboratories of Molecular Cytogenetics and Environmental and Respiratory Tract Pathology and Head of the Research Unit for Molecular Lung and Pleural Pathology. Dr. Popper has held a number of prestigious positions during his career, including as Chairman of the Pulmonary Pathology Group of the European Society of Pathology and President of the Austrian Society of Pathology. He is an associate editor of the journal Translational Lung Cancer Research and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Thoracic Oncology. He has received awards or medals for Continuous Medical Education from the Swedish Medical Society, the Russian and Turkish Thoracic Societies, and the Italian Pathologic Society.

AshleyOracle “This textbook was required by my pathology course in an Occupational Therapist Assistant & Physiotherapist Assistant program. It is full of valuable, easy-to-read information. Not a whole lot of detail on each pathology, but that’s expected seeing as it discusses so many different ones. It’s also directed at PTAs, so I found that very helpful and relevant as a student. The style and format of the textbook make it extremely useful and simple to follow. My only complaint is that some of the conditions/pathologies weren’t included in the index, and some important terms were missing from the glossary. Overall great book, would recommend.”

Pat “Transaction was fine. The text appears as a series of copy and pasting entries as many phrases repeat one another, sometimes within the same paragraph. It covers a TON of content, so specificity suffers, but the editors could have consolidated many statements throughout. Also, more diagrams will help the reader. This book relies too heavily on straight text. Still, as a quick reference and not a definitive guide, this book suits its purposes.”

Big Boss Hoss “This book is full of information, examples, charts, and helpful pictures; however, the book reads like a repetitive run on sentence. You also get a massive amount of information in a section that has little to do with the topic then the next topic is exactly that useless bit from the last topic cut and pasted. An editor would be nice. As well as bold terms with defined definitions. It is also hard to find information because of the lack of bold terms. Hard to look back and find information in the book as well without having to reread a whole chapter or section of a chapter.”

While the book is helpful in learning what pathologies are, I felt like I needed another source to help me decipher what the book was saying at some points.
