 Great for trainees

I have just started my oncology training and take this with me wherever I am, whether it is the ward or clinic.

It starts with a very good overview of essential topics that underpin oncology, including cancer genetics, principles of different treatment options and clinical research.

It is then split into chapters based on tumour site and gives a good overview for each. This edition is currently right up to date with nearly all therapies I have come across so far.

There are also some very useful sections on oncological emergencies.

Good handbook but slightly out of date.

As anyone who works in oncology knows, by the time you publish something, new progress/treatment/guidelines/staging would have been released. But this book does give the junior doctor a place to start. Can’t replace dedicated oncology teaching from an experienced Clinical Oncologist. This is the usual quality from the oxford handbook series. Won’t help you pass a professional exam, but good enough to help you get on on the wards.
