Great book for New Nurses!
June 8, 2017

This book was very helpful for those of us interested in a career in nursing that is not at the bedside. There are so many options for a nurse who may not desire to work in an acute care setting. The book also has many references and societies for these nursing careers and gives a basic rundown of what the average day is like. I only gave it 4 stars because I would have like a little more information on these “Beyond the Bedside” careers. Such as what types of facilities hire these nurses and what the average salary range is compared to a bedside nurse.

Good Book, Quite Short

Pros: Useful, consistent format throughout. Summaries of required experience for each career option and some interviews in particular career areas. Many links imbedded in the book for those wishing to explore a specific area further.

Cons: Book is wildly overpriced for length – the average reader will probably spend less than 2 hours going through the content. At least one career option, ‘missionary nurse’ could do with updating – there are many non-religious opportunities to work in international medical relief.

You probably are already aware of the different fields of nursing.

I did not find this informative. I assumed it would help one find a way to use a nursing degree/ skills gained as a nurse outside the actual practice of nursing. It really is just a snippet of nursing roles that aren’t necessarily at the bedside in a hospital.
