Attributes of Neuropsychoanalysis in Practice By Georg Northoff PDF

Is the Ego nothing but our brain? Are our mental and psychological states nothing but neuronal states of our brain? Though Sigmund Freud rejected a neuroscientific foundation for psychoanalysis, recent knowledge in neuroscience has provided novel insights into the brain and its neuronal mechanisms. This has also shed light on how the brain itself contributes to the differentiation between neuronal and psychological states. Neuropsychoanalysis in Practice By Georg Northoff PDF

In Neuropsychoanalysis in Practice , Georg Northoff discusses the various neuronal mechanisms that may enable the transformation of neuronal into psychological states, looking at how these processes are altered in psychiatric disorders like depression and schizophrenia. He focuses specifically on how the brain is organized and how this organization enables the brain to differentiate between neuronal and psychodynamic states, that is, the brain and the psyche. This leads him to discuss
not only empirical issues but also conceptual problems, for instance, the concept of the brain. Neuropsychoanalysis in Practice applies these concepts and mechanisms to explain the various symptoms observed in psychiatric disorders such as depression and schizophrenia. In addition to the empirical issues,
he also discusses various conceptual and methodological issues that are relevant in linking neuroscience and psychoanalysis, developing a novel transdisciplinary framework for linking neuroscience, psychoanalysis and philosophy.

This highly original new book will help foster new dialogues between neuroscience, psychoanalysis, and philosophy, and will be fascinating reading for anyone in these disciplines.

The way of the future
December 30, 2011

Ok so I read this one as part of a trilogy (Solms’ Clinical studies in Neuropsychoanalysis and Bernstein’s A basic theory of Neuropsychoanalysis being the other two), and as it turns out, Neuropsychoanalysis in practice may be the closest thing to a basic theory of this new discipline. While in his book Solms introduced the necessity of a transdisciplinary approach in order to tackle the fundamental problems about the human mind (not devoid out of beauty thanks to the clinical cases), Northoff goes all the way here, from philosophy of mind, to neuroscience, to psychoanalysis; with enough originality and refinement of ideas to constitute a tour de force. While its contents are way too complex for me to summarize here (just take a look at the table of contents), I feel after this Neuropsychoanalysis may be an enterprise with enough heaviness to stand on its own. Transepistemic integration, that’s the way of the future.

This is a tough read, but worth the effort …

This is a tough read, but worth the effort. This book is for psychologist, psychiatrists, neuroscientists, and philosophers. Dr. Northoff presents decades of scientific research from philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience to offer a trans-disciplinary perspective of how the mind works. This volume is one of the freshest perspectives that I have read in many years.

This book is really boring and difficult to understand
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 13, 2016

This book is really boring and difficult to understand. One of the reasons is because this book is lack of example. From the begaining to the end, there is only the description of theory. I still can’t understand what are stimulus-rest interaction and rest-stimulus interaction.
