Highly Commended by the BMA Medical Book Awards for Surgical Specialties! National Registry Paramedic Examination Strategies, Practice & Review PDF

Ear, nose, and throat diseases present and progress very differently in children than in adults, needing different diagnostic and treatment strategies. Training in the subspecialty of pediatric otolaryngology is often part of a general ENT program and not a program in itself. As such, the general otolaryngologist may be insufficiently prepared to handle certain pediatric cases.

R. W. Clarke’s Pediatric Otolaryngology: Practical Clinical Management aims to provide the pediatric ENT resident or fellow, as well as the general ENT practitioner, with sound clinical guidance on ENT pathologies as they affect the pediatric population.

Key Features:

Fully describes the characteristics of ENT diseases in children, as opposed to only describing how the disorders differ from their presentations in adults
International cast of expert contributors
Practice based, for the clinician
Comprehensive accounts of hearing loss in children, often poorly covered in standard texts
Text boxes orient the reader to “danger signs,” “top tips” in surgery, advice regarding potential complications, situations that need urgent referral, and medicolegal pitfalls
Pediatric Otolaryngology is an essential reference of this important subspecialty for ENT doctors in practice, as well as in preparation for board examinations.

So far the only reliable prep for the NREMT-P but it’s a good one!
December 13, 2018

Taking the NREMT-P exam? Get this book! The $40 or so that it costs is well worth a complete summary of your entire medic program. For the person saying it’s too detailed and goes in-depth, unnecessarily so – I would have to agree. But on the other hand, it’s better then rereading the AAOS textbooks because that’s what a large chunk of the exam is on. Seriously, read one chapter every day and you’ll be done in under 2 weeks. Better yet, just set a goal to read 50 pages a day, focus on those 50 pages, understand them. If this book provides absolutely nothing of value for the exam at the very least you will be a better medic because of it. It’s not that hard.

The test on the other hand is something else. I recall going over certain topics in the Kaplan prep book that were on the test but I would describe the exam as testing your ability and confidence in being a paramedic. It’s more of a test on EMS than formulas and vocabulary. It will not ask generic questions like…what is hypoxia? It’s one of the strangest tests I have ever taken. Completely random and many situational based questions. I walked out not knowing what it was I had just taken. There are always the standard two answer that BOTH could be correct. But you have to pick one. Read the question thoroughly once more and go with your gut. I finished at around question 90 and became certified today! And I think this book definitely helped me get an edge.

Great for national registry
January 29, 2019

So I took the national registry test last month only to fail all sections. I didn’t really study because I felt that I didn’t need to which I obviously did. I had forgotten basic things to remember which hurt me during the test. A couple of my buddies recommended this book and said it helped them pass. So after reading some reviews, I decided what the heck let’s just give it a try. I studied the whole book in less than a month and retook the test and passed it. I can honestly say this book really helped me pass on my second attempt. It hits most of the points you need to know for the test. It is a little more detailed but there’s nothing wrong with knowing that extra information. I recommend buying this book if you’re having trouble passing the national registry or if you need a study guide.

It’s a decent study guide but it’s missing tons of information. Furthermore, there are dozens of contradictions in this book. You may read one passage that gives you a bit of information, and then three pages later read another passage that totally contradicts everything that it already said.

In no way, shape or form should this be your only tool for studying for the NREMT P. If it is, you will not pass the test.

Furthermore, Kaplan needs a total re-do on immunology. Which is absolutely on the NREMT test. In fact, in this book, on the topic of immunology it states that “the paramedic does not need to know the functions of specific Igs”. I promise you that you do need to know them. Because I just took the test and had several questions on Igs.

Good overview but not detailed enough
February 17, 2019

I recently went through the National Registry process for my paramedic and was looking for good resources to study for the exam. I came upon this book and bought it based on the reviews.

In general, the book does a good job of reviewing the key aspects of a standard paramedic textbook, a la Mosby or Caroline. It covers the main components of Airway, Cardiology, Pharmacology, OB/Pediatrics, and Medical Emergencies. As I read through the various chapters, I would take practice tests and found that there just wasn’t enough detail provided in this book. Essentially, it gave you about 75% of the material. This may or may not be enough to pass the test. It also doesn’t have a section covering EMS Prepatory or EMS Operations, both of which are components of the written exam and must be passed to achieve your NRP.

The accuracy of the material was pretty good. A bothersome common trait was the use of numbers inappropriately, rather than the number being written out; “1” instead of “one.” There are other shorthand findings throughout as well. It’s as if the author submitted his writings to the editor in shorthand but then these weren’t corrected for the final written product.

In the end, I passed the NRP on my first attempt but relied more on my Mosby textbook and computer practice exams than this book. It has it’s place but don’t rely completely on it.

This is a MUST-HAVE review book!
April 12, 2019

I read this book cover to cover during the week before my national was scheduled. I am SO glad I did! It took all the major points from my 2,500 page paramedic course text and consolidated it down to 400 pages, making it the perfect review text. MANY of the questions I saw on National were almost word for word from this text. If you really put in the effort to read this book, you will definitely be successful on your NREMT P.

Helped Me Pass!
April 13, 2021

This book is amazing. When I finished my medic class I thought well I just got done with the class, I don’t need to study. Well my failing grade of every single section proved other wise. I bought this book and read it cover to cover. It’s basically my year long class condensed down into 300-ish pages. Covers the basics, the high points, literally everything. However, it’s missing ambulance ops which is a decent percent of the test. The book is an easy read without a bunch of unneeded fluff. Anyways, I had my second attempt yesterday. I left feeling like I did better but I wasn’t sure if I passed. Today I found out I did! I honestly give this book so much credit. Whether you’re having a hard time passing or just want to do a good review before your first attempt, BUY THIS. Buy it right now. Hit the ‘Buy Now’ button and thank me later.

Pieced together book…
November 8, 2019

Hopefully this material will help me pass national registry. As far as how this book came, I am royally disappointed. The book looks like it was printed at office depot and glued into the cover. The cover and my index in the back are cut at the top as shown in my pictures… like it was pieced together. The pages are very thin and I had to separate each page as it was assembled stuck together and perforated. Very misleading..to say I paid the price of a new book, this book looks very used. Will submit after reading and passing registry. I’m praying all of the info I need is in here since it looks pieced together..ugh.
