Bert Muller is Professor for Materials Science in Medicine at the University of Basel and teaches physics at ETH Zurich. He received a diploma in mechanical engineering, followed by M.Sc. degrees in Physics and English from the Dresden University of Technology, and obtained a PhD in experimental physics from the University of Hannover, Germany. For his achievements he was granted with the Morton M. Traum Award of the American Vacuum Society. Afterwards, he worked as researcher at the Paderborn University, Germany, as Feodor Lynen Fellow and research associate at the EPF Lausanne and as team leader at ETH Zurich. He has become a faculty member of the Physics Department at ETH Zurich. Ten years ago he has founded the Biomaterials Science Center. Currently, this center has more than twenty researchers dealing with nanotechnology-based artificial muscles for incontinence treatment, smart nano-containers to treat cardiovascular diseases, high-resolution X-ray imaging to visualize the human body down to the molecular level, computational sciences of tissues in health and disease and other applications of physics and nanosciences in medicine and dentistry. He is Fellow of SPIE and an active member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Marcel Van de Voorde has 40 years` experience in European Research Organisations including CERN-Geneva, European Commission, with 10 years at the Max Planck Institute in Stuttgart, Germany. For many years, he was involved in research and research strategies, policy and management, especially in European research institutions. He holds a Professorship at the University of Technology in Delft, the Netherlands, as well as multiple visiting professorships in Europe and worldwide. He holds a doctor honoris causa and various honorary Professorships.
He is senator of the European Academy for Sciences and Arts, in Salzburg and Fellow of the World Academy for Sciences. He is a Fellow of various scientific societies and has been decorated by the Belgian King. He has authored of multiple scientific and technical publications and co-edited multiple books in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. –This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

Unforgettably Creepily Great

I didn’t read The Housemaid, I inhaled it. Who’s gaslighting whom? I felt like I was inside that Ingrid Bergman movie constantly switching my emotions as McFadden toys with clues that are not readily picked up. But it all comes together in the end. Instead of alternating chapters back and forth between Millie and Nina, she delivers a complete sense of each character and the way she writes it is brilliant. The Housemaid does what many thrillers don’t – presents you with a “I don’t know who I am routing for anymore now.” The book from the very beginning had me invested with loyalty issues as if these are real people. There’s one scene where I started biting my nails and I haven’t done that since I was seven years old. My heart was palpitating with fear as if I suddenly escaped into the book and became that character. Terrified. I won’t tell you who or I’ll spoil it for you. There are twists galore-so many and then Freida McFadden does what she does best- she leaves the best for last –yes up until that very last line, be on your toes and keep the lights on. 5 stars+

WOW!!! Pychological Suspense at its Finest

OMG!!!!!! WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! This story had it all. I did not want to put it down and now that I’m finished with it I want to read it again. This is one of Frieda’s best books yet and that is saying something because all of them are amazing. This one blew my mind. I love her writing style and the way she ratchets up the tension by keeping you guessing and then second guessing what you guessed and then finding out you were wrong about everything you thought you knew. Lol. If you have to choose one psychological suspense to read this year this is it!!!! It is hands down the best book I have read in a long time and that is saying something because I read all the time. Bravo Frieda McFadden you have outdone yourself.

Nina Winchester has it all. The Perfect house. A gorgeous husband who is so kind and rich. She even has a cute little girl. She decides to interview and eventually hire Millie for a live in nanny/housekeeper position.

Millie applies for this “dream job” to be the housekeeper/maid for the Winchesters. It is a live in position with amazing pay. Too good to be true. Well, she should have listened to that feeling. Nina is a horrible boss and treats her like dirt, the sweet little girl isn’t very sweet and has an attitude problem. The only person in this house she can relate to is the husband Andrew.

When Millie takes the job, Nina is ecstatic and takes Millie to her new room. It is small, very small but better the sleeping in her car, which is what she has been doing for the past month or so. The only weird thing is the lock is on the outside, but Nina explains this used to be a storage facility. Millie then noticed scratches near the door on the wall…she has no idea what happened in that room before she was hired, the horrors she is about to face and that NOTHING is as It seems.

This book will leave you shaken, terrified, disgusted and at the same time wanting more. I couldn’t help but keep reading despite the revelations that come and it will have you thinking the worst about those seemingly perfect spouses.

I loved this book at the beginning. The characters were interesting and the story moved along nicely. I kept wanting to find out what would happen next. Then it went downhill. It became very repetitive – the same situation kept happening multiple times. I gave up because I honestly didn’t care what happened.

Couldn’t Put It Down!

The description “Thriller” is right on! From the first page to the last, I was completely engrossed in this novel. The twists and turns are completely unexpected and I could hardly wait for the next one.
Ms. McFadden has crafted a tale of evil that keeps you guessing. As soon as I felt I knew one character intimately, the story would take a turn that left me totally in the dark.
This story is told by the two women main characters. The psychological element is trying to determine which of them is unbalanced.
I highly recommend this book to those of you who enjoy a great psychological thriller.

WOWWWWWWWW DOESN’T EVEN SUM THIS BOOK UP}

Absolutely a true psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist in every sense of the word. I have to say, I just finished the last page of this book and I already want to read it again. I have just a few very favorite authors and Frieda McFadden is in the top two. But this book may have pushed her to number one. I love all of this author’s books. When I hear that a new book written by her is coming out,I wait patiently until release day and I snap it up the same day. This book is my new favorite of hers. It was just so good! The sequence of events just floored me and I absolutely couldn’t put it down. Everything I thought I knew as I was reading was proven wrong. VERY WRONG! I am positive that you will not see that twist coming. Buy this book! And if you haven’t read her other books GET THEM NOW! After you read this book you’re going to binge read her other books because you will realize she is soon to be one of your top two very favorite authors. Without a doubt!
