A Good Read

I enjoyed this book. The main character is a normal woman approaching her 40’s roped into being a liaison with the local police, over and above with her running a hotel and raising her daughter. The plot is easily followed, and the story is a good one. I definitely recommend this story.

Honey, a lovely name for a lovely character. Honey, besides having a restaurant/hotel to run, is asked to become a sleuth to help to find a missing gentleman. She works alongside detective Doherty who fancies himself as a ladies’ man. Honey is determined not to let him get under her skin but to no avail.
Without putting any spoilers, all I can say is this story is very enjoyable. All different kinds of characters. Some act a bit batty—like Honey’s mum. Looking forward in reading the next in the series.

I struggled to get a quarter way through this book and then gave up. Being set in lovely Bath is it’s only good point as the characters are unbelievably awful and completely unlikeable. The over use of the word cop and the portrayal of the police characters was cringe making which made it impossible to keep reading. I am an avid reader of British crime novels, whether serious or ‘cozy’, and this is the worst I’ve come across.

Growth and forgiveness

For once I actually thought Colleen wasn’t going to make me cry. I made it about 320 pages and the floodgates opened.

Someone asked me the other day if Reminders of Him was a romance. With most of Colleen’s books, they’re typecast into romance but to me, it was just a novel. Not <I>just</I> a novel but romance wasn’t the center of it. It’s a story of tragedy and growth and forgiveness. Yes, there is a relationship and an HEA but for me, the HEA is with the entire cast of characters. An ensemble.

As with all of Hoover’s books, I recommend going in blind. It’s filled with grief, has plenty of humor, and will leave your heart warmed.
