Amanda D. “It’s terribly written, not proofread well, inconsistent nomenclature. The author refers to cell membranes on occasions as cell WALLS and there’s a huge difference. Especially when you’re learning about their properties and how to degrade them for analysis of a cells contents. I liked the idea they tried to implement by having advanced concepts pulled from the main text with their own formatting. However, the chapter structures as a whole are atrocious. If you’re comparing a technique between RNA and DNA they should have the same topics under each. I should not have a header of ‘Preparing the Sample’ under one and not the other. Even if it’s a short section that says hey they’re mostly the same, BUT here’s how they’re different. The differences shouldn’t be casually mentioned under different headers. If you can find a different textbook that your professor will accept do so. Don’t use this for class or you’ll wind up befuddled on the simplest of things.”

N. Yao “People always refer to this book as the Buckingham Bible. If you are going for your CGMBS license, or your MB(ASCP) license, or your SMB(ASCP) license, the materials covered in this book will be crucial for passing your board exams.

HOWEVER, I don’t know if it was because I got a bad copy or something, but MY GOD THE AMOUNT OF ERRORS. I’ve found errors of every kind – spelling errors, grammar errors, wrong answers associated with wrong case study questions, answers to questions that didn’t exist and vice versa, figures that showed the wrong information, and just straight up wrong facts. I spent about 40% of the time reading this book just making correction notes.

If you’re going to read things book, use it as a framework for what to focus on, and use another book or Google to help you double check the facts. The Coleman books are pretty good.

tl:dr: topics covered are essential for passing your boards. The amount of errors in this book will make you pull your hair out. Definitely fact check.“

Several MAJOR typos/lack of proofreading in the genetics sections. Don’t learn cytogenetic nomenclature from this book.”
