The Authors

David L. Nelson is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is also the Academic Program Director for university’s Institute for Cross-college Biology Education. Michael M. Cox was born in Wilmington, Delaware. After graduating from the University of Delaware in 1974, Cox went to Brandeis University to do his doctoral work with William P. Jencks, and then to Stanford in 1979 for postdoctoral study with I. Robert Lehman. He moved to the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983, and became a full professor of biochemistry in 1992. His research focuses on recombinational DNA repair processes. In addition to the work on this text, Cox is a co-author of four editions of Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry. He has received awards for both his teaching and his research, including the 1989 Eli Lilly Award in Biological Chemistry, and two major teaching awards from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin System. Hobbies include travel, gardening, wine collecting, and assisting in the design of laboratory buildings.”

Pages 879 through 894 (detailing the synthesis of neurotransmitters from amino acids) simply aren’t there. Skips from page 878 directly to page 895. The text and diagrams are not continuous, and figure labeling skips from figure 22-9 to figure 22-41. The index and table of contents both refer to the missing pages as though they are there, but they aren’t! The binding is fully intact, and there is no sign of page removal. The problem is likely a misprint, making it likely that all the copies of this text sold by this company are misprints.

to any students who need SaplingPlus access for their courses, don’t waste your money buying it here. SaplingPlus access costs up to $100 on it’s own, so just buy the bundle offered on Macmillan’s site for ~$280 which will get you the book and a year of Sapling access.

Too expensive and mainly useless.

This book was a total wasted $250+. It did t seem to coincide much with what my professor gave as lessons. I used a lot of supplemental materials. And when I tried to create an account from the publishers but I was never able to use my account. There’s no contact number. I submitted a ticket as suggested for problems but no one ever got back to me. I earned a B+ in the class mostly without using the book. I hate I highlighted some things. I’d love to have my money back.
