The Authors
Dr. Katzung received his M.D. degree from State University of New York, Syracuse in 1957 and the Ph.D. in Pharmacology from University of California, San Francisco in 1962. After internship at Moffitt Hospital, he joined the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (now CMP) at UCSF in 1958 and the faculty in 1962. He was Acting Chair of the Department from 1978 to 1981. His research focused on cardiac function, especially cardiac cellular electrical activity, as affected by drugs, including digitalis and antiarrhythmic agents.
Teaching: Dr. Katzung directed the Department’s teaching program for all professional students from 1972 through 1995. Since retirement, he has continued (on recall) to teach medical students.

Amazing and useful book

Internship Companion
When you first glance at the book and how it is organized, you can tell right away that the author besides offering a comprehensive amount of knowledge, goes beyond and presents a book with a never-seen-before pedagogic structure. For me, this is the key between great books and outstanding, well-crafted books…such as this one.
The algorithms and the steps approach make it easy to understand and use in a daily basis. For sure, this is going to be in my lab coat for the rest of my intern year!!
Book not pocket sized

I have a previous edition of this book and it fits in my pocket. This one is double the size and double the thickness of the previous edition and will not fit in your pocket.

Amazing step-by-step companion

At first glance, this looks like any other guide to labs, but once one you start introducing it in patient-care is where this book really starts to shine. The organization of steps and relevant information that this book has is amazing, and it allows you to learn the management in the most didactic way possible. I cannot emphasize how happy I am with this book, highly recommend it.

I own a lot of textbooks in the field of physical therapy, nursing, and medicine. Fitzpatrick’s color atlas is truly a gem to have. The textbook is portable in size, has good binding and is made with good quality, and has excellent colored pictures and word descriptions. I find myself reading it often for leisure or when I have a difficult skin condition that requires increased differential diagnosis. Google is often used as a replacement by providers, but I do not think it can ever replace a textbook written by dermatologists. There is a lot of misinformation on the web as it relates to the pictures and the diagnosis. Buy this book and you won’t regret it.
