The chapters of this book are organized around the different ways Kemble sought to braid her family’s story into the larger landscape of Playa Grande and to provide inspiration, joy, and respite to all who come. “Fantasy” looks at the way she used whimsical, dreamlike elements–from the latticework cabanas by the pool to the lamb statues on the property who “mow” the lawns–throughout the property to create a sense of play and possibility. “Light, Salt, Air” describes how she went about bringing the most precious elements of the beach into the homes themselves, creating a feeling of flow and permeability, and reminding visitors constantly of where they are. “In the Jungle” looks at the design cues she took from the flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest surrounding Playa Grande to create an alluring tension between chaos and refinement. “Sweet & Dark” examines the surprising color combinations that tango into life in the tropics–whether in the form of tribal prints in hot Gauguin colors mixed with Jordan-almond pastels or handmade objects like a papier-mâché lobster mask that brings a shout of spirit to a room. Finally, “Texture” focuses on the powerful impact that thoughtfully layered materials–from rough, local coquina stone and painted antique wicker to the smooth polished cotton of Dutch wax prints–have on a space.
Throughout this lovingly crafted book, ideas abound for anyone decorating a sunny home or fantasizing about spending time in one. Kemble shares inspiration for creating a sense of openness to the sea, sand, and sky; offering places to wash sandy feet or perfect viewing spots for a sunset-saturated drink; and infusing spaces with invitation, welcome, and magic.

Was hoping for more interior photos

I was a bit disappointed in this book. It was beautiful, but it had more artsy photos and irrelevant text than I prefer. I was hoping for more interior photos. I did like the patterned floor tiles that were pictured. Otherwise, I wish that I would have passed on this one.

This book is a must for anyone that collects coffee table books. I stumbled upon on Instagram when I saw the photographers photos and immediately bought the book. Her home is a labor of love, so unique and the attention to detail is amazing. Each page is filled with treasures. I just wish I could stay there or be part of the family. Lol.

I ordered this book for my mom, sister, and aunt for Mother’s Day and it was the best gift! We all took time to flip through the pages together… and it was such a treat… we were in awe of the design and the photography of this tropical paradise!! They loved the book so much and I later ordered one for myself too!

Celery’s book is fantastic and does a wonderful job at showcasing her relaxed beachy design aesthetic. This book is a must have for anyone who loves her natural decorating style. The photos of her family beach compound are beyond dreamy!

This is a truly unique design book. Both the photography and the writing are heartfelt and magical. You are immediately transported through the authors love of this special place to the sandy beach and beautiful personalized villas. As I have visited this property, I can confidently say this book will transport you through the pages and make you fall in love with this wonderful place. As a coffee table book, the photos are stunning, but it is the writing and poetry that pulls you in. You can feel the love the author has for this special property and it is fascinating to read about the design and build process. A must read book and a must visit place.

I have a great many Decor, Gardening and so called “Coffee Table Books”. This book, my homage to the Beach House I will probably never own is absolutely original. On the top of my stack. CK has real talent and a Florida girl as well. We love the beach and beautiful things with originality.
