Much more than just an Introduction
February 1, 2017
This is a paperback book of approximately 330 pages, printed on durable satin paper stock. It contains numerous graphs, figures and tables, many in partial or full color, that supplement the text. There are 4 appendices covering mathematical concepts, models, curve fitting and simulations as well as a subject index. A companion website is promised that will provide questions and answers and also topics for further discussion. Every conceivable aspect of drug delivery, action and elimination is at least mentioned, if not described in great detail. Each of the 14 chapters begins with a list of learning objectives and ends with a summary of the salient points; each also has suggestions for further reading and references to original source material. The authors have clearly spent a good deal of time ensuring that the presentation of information is orderly, logical and contemporary. This work would be very appropriate as a textbook for a graduate student elective course on pharmacokinetics, but it will be equally useful to practicing scientists who wish to refresh and update their knowledge regarding the mechanisms of drug movement within the human body and the various factors that affect the body’s responses to drugs.

As a medical student, I have this book on my desk and often refer to it for any pharmacokinetics topic I come across in our curriculum. It is clear, concise and includes relevant, easy-to-read graphs and images. Particularly useful for me are the bits of clinical relevance and clinical examples that the author includes. I’d recommend book this to anyone in the med/pharm field!!
