I preorderd this book and got it delivered on its release date because I had such high hopes for it. I wanted to love it. But honestly, I’m not sure it will work for the average, working person/family. To follow the specific meal plans, you will need to set aside a significant portion of your day to cook. Day 3 of Intro Week is literally hours of prep and cook time. Also, several recipes, in addition to the daily morning smoothie, require a scoop of a specific Rootcology protein powder which runs $80 per canister on . Obviously at this price point, it may be not feasible for many people’s household budget, especially if you’re a mom who is having to increase the recipe sizes to feed a big family.

On the upside, it’s a beautiful book, lovely pictures, and great info on Hashimotos. Just maybe not the best solution for a busy, working, middle class family.

As in usual fashion, it appears her new book was rushed to press without enough editing-What finally pushed me to write this review is that I just finished making a recipe for Coconut Yogurt where the key ingredient for the yogurt starter was in the list of ingredients but left out of the instructions. So following the instructions, I have a bunch of coconut mush and some yogurt starter on the side no idea where it would have made sense to add that along the way because it’s not in the instructions. But what I find really bothersome about the book overall is that recipes call out black pepper to add “if tolerated” but they don’t remind you or others that might be cooking for you to beware the night shades (potatoes, tomatoes, red peppers) and legumes (black beans, garbanzo beans) etc. that she’s based many of the recipes around for example: Farinata bread (8 ounces garbanzo-bean flour being the first and primary ingredient). The beginning of the book notes that many people are sensitive to night shades and legumes so I find it an irritating oversight that she would call out a random thing here and there to be aware of “if tolerated” when many of the recipes are literally brimming with irritants for many of us with Hashimotos.

This is the last of her books I will buy. Ever. I do appreciate that she wrote them. I just really wish she would have waited to have an editor fix them. They are full of redundancy to the point where they just cause confusion as she talks in circles and contradicts herself. And her infomercial products that she has begun hawking are only undermining any authority she might have had. I had hope this would be a useful tool because cooking with Hashimotos is difficult. But since she’s included all the foods that many of us have sensitivities without even marking them, it makes it a far less useful tool.

Very disappointed. She has written a book that isn’t just for AIP, it include two other diets as well and all the recipes are mixed together. She does a two week diet plan for each, but no grocery list, so you are flipping back and forth trying to figure out what to buy to cook these recipes. The recipes are also not compiled per diet, but mixed together so again, more flipping back and forth. Completely frustrating! I can’t answer for the taste of the recipes as I closed the book and put it aside.

Excellent! Izabella’s comprehensive book offers super easy meal plans which are easy to implement along with any diet you may be following. This book will also help you understand how to approach your symptom burden (pain, IBS, hair loss, brain fog, etc) common in people with thyroid disease through the use of healing foods that are nutritious and delicious. The recipes are delicious and the pictures are gorgeous. As a nurse-nutritionist who works exclusively with women with Hashimoto’s, I am recommending this book to all my clients.

I absolutely LOVE this book. Izabella does a fabulous job of explaining Hashimoto’s and the principles and science that support her healing through nutrition approach. She explains the “why” behind the concepts she presents. I found the information in this book comprehensive and extremely helpful. It goes way beyond typical medical advice. As an integrative health coach and person with Hashimoto’s, I know firsthand how powerful and life-changing this material is. Izabella takes a difficult subject and breaks it down into easy, manageable steps. I just started trying the healthy recipes and so far they are delicious. I am dairy and gluten-free and can eat all the recipes in this book – yay! The directions are simple and the photographs are beautiful. I can’t wait to keep trying new ones. I am now recommending it to all my clients who have Hashimoto’s as well as people with other autoimmune conditions.

I have bought numerous cookbooks over the years, paleo, mediteranean, and this and that…and based on my genetics, my food sensitivies and my thyroid health I always end up a little deflatted. But this book… finally a book for me!!!
First recipe in picture, bison meatballs, so so good.
The little notes in the book, so helpful, like random comments that fennel can be aggravating for autoimmune issues. Never knew that. I have not read the first part of the book yet, will get there soon.

Very Basic – much better options elsewhere

The premise behind this book is that food and nutrition are the foundation of healing. Nothing at all wrong in that, but nothing new either. This is a book in two parts, the first (which takes up only a third of the book) is about having Hashimoto’s and what to do about getting tested/diagnosed etc, The rest of the book (two thirds) is a collection of 125 recipes. Unfortunately none of the information about being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s or about diet/nutritional aspects of healing is new and what is there is pretty entry level. It can all be found for free on Wentz’s website/blog posts, or those of many other thyroid specialist doctors, or in Wentz’s previous book on Hashimoto’s, which offers much greater depth of information. As for the recipes that form two thirds of the book, they are very very basic. Do we need a recipe to make Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms Paleo style (except with cashew cream cheese!) or Twice Baked Sweet Potato (using coconut yogurt)? Or Polish cucumber salad – sliced cucumber with coconut milk/yogurt plus seasoning or root veggie bake?!!! The list of laughably simplistic recipes is too long to put here. I am not by any means more than a half-decent home cook (think uncomplicated Nigella/Jamie etc) but unless you are a complete beginner, you don’t need a recipe for this stuff. Also, if you follow Paleo/Paleo Automimmune/Low Fodmap diets etc. there are many far far better cookbooks on the market should you need inspiration. I learned absolutely nothing new from this book and feel somewhat let down. It is going off to the charity shop.

Really love this book. It’s full of vital information and has really helped. Her recipes are easy to prepare, follow and taste amazing. There is a range of recipes and not just simple salads as previous review suggested (salmon and parsnip fish cakes are definitely a favourite). This has educated me To know what I should be eating to feel better. Would definitely recommend to anyone who suffers from thyroid issues.

 Useful book

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 12, 2019

It a good bookwith very useful everyday tips and easy to follow advice. However some of the recipes are a bit too hardcore and definitely don’t look anything like the original dish. Overall though this book has helped me a lot with adapting my diet and way of cooking.
