Features of Hair and Hair Disorders PDF

This book, Hair and Hair Disorders: Diagnosis and Management, deals with hair disorders. Trichology is an upcoming branch of dermatology as 10–20% of dermatological out-patients present with hair-related problems. There is an ocean of opportunities for research work in hair-related disorders due to paucity of literature in this subspecialty and also need for a updated book that would throw light on management of hair-related conditions. The book aims to provide an extensive data on hair-related disorders to complement the details available in major textbooks in the field of dermatology. The various sections are based on presenting symptoms and signs, differential diagnosis, therapeutics and surgical modalities highlighted with text boxes and illustrations. Recent advances in the field of trichology have prompted the management of hair and hair disorders enormously, and this is reflected in the descriptions in the relevant sections. G R E A T!!! Helped me so much (as a parent)!

Loved, loved, LOVED this book. As a very worried parent of an 11 year old girl with Trich, I was to the point of medicating myself due to CONSTANT worry about my daughters hair pulling and well-being. This book did not make any difference in my daughter’s hair pulling… or did it? After reading this book I realized I had to let my worries go and just be there for my daughter. The comparison to going on a diet really helped put it in perspective for me. You know you need to go on a diet, but sometimes you don’t stay on that diet. People nagging you and watching what you eat only makes you more frustrated, angry and feeling bad about yourself. When it is your time to diet, you will. This is how it has worked for my daughter’s Trich. I sat her down, told her I read the book and told her I wasn’t stressed out about her hair pulling anymore. I told her not to worry about me that I was 100% ok. I told her I didn’t care what her head might end up looking like, that I love her and will always love her and if she ever wants help (or a hat), to just let me know. Taking that (unintended) pressure off her has made a huge difference for both of us. So what if she has a bald spot on her head? We will deal with it. At least she’s healthy and she’s here.

Useful resource for parents, I am working with a preteen and her mother used to pull her eyebrows and she found it useful.

really helpful, well written

Recently my preschooler moved from twisting her hair into knots to actually pulling the hair out. She has a bald spot the size of an orange on one side of her head. When I found it I was devastated. This book is a Godsend. The author is very clear that this disorder is NOT a stress reaction. Hair pulling does not mean that your child is experiencing trauma nor is it a mental illness. Hair pulling is a habit on par with biting your nails, just with a more visible result. The book takes you through cases of a few children of various ages, from when their hair pulling started through treatments and strategies all the way to the outcome as the kids grew into adults. I am not frivolous with our money but this was worth every penny.

A family’s struggle
March 8, 2014

Our daughter suffers from this and we have tried numerous things, so far nothing has helped and believe me we have tried most everything, the book does have some useful tips. The more I read the book the more I did realize I cNt fix it for her on my own, it’s a group effort and lots of trail and error, patience and small steps. She may never get all that beautiful thick hair back but I also began to see that its a really hard battle for her and not something that will change in one night, after reading the book she is doing a bit better but because of how hard it is to overcome I’m okay with that and will continue to be her positive help and love her regardless , beauty isn’t always your hair or body .
