Attributes of Geomicrobiology 6th Edition PDF

Advances in geomicrobiology have progressed at an accelerated pace in recent years. Ehrlich’s Geomicrobiology, Sixth Edition surveys various aspects of the field, including the microbial role in elemental cycling and in the formation and degradation of minerals and fossil fuels. Unlike the fifth edition, the sixth includes many expert contributors besides the editors, providing added depth to each topic and broadening this edition’s overall insight into geomicrobiology.Geomicrobiology 6th Edition PDF

The Sixth Edition Includes:

  • Extensive revisions and updates to most chapters from the fifth edition
  • A new capter on terrestrial subsurface ecosystems
  • A new chapter summarizing important principles of geomicrobiology
  • New discussions and references on the latest findings and theories in geomicrobiology

Through revisions, updates, and the introduction of new authors who are specialists on the topics covered, this new edition is the most in-depth and current overview of geomicrobiology. The research presented has applications in agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, marine science, the metals industry, and more. The new breadth and scope as well as the current and developing applications which this book addresses make it a must-have source in geomicrobiology.

The Writers

Henry Lutz Ehrlich, PhD, is an active retiree with the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York. He earned his PhD in agricultural microbiology with a minor in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His research efforts have centered on geomicrobiology since 1959, and he was the editor-in-chief of the Geomicrobiology Journal from 1983-1995 and has been the co-editor-in-chief since 1995.

Andreas Kappler, PhD, is professor of geomicrobiology at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Germany. He received his PhD in environmental microbiology and microbial ecology at the University of Konstanz, Germany. He moved to Tübingen in 2004 to head an Emmy-Noether Junior Research Group in geomicrobiology before being appointed to his current professorship. His research focuses on the formation and transformation of iron (Fe) minerals by Fe (II)-oxidizing and Fe (III)-reducing bacteria, the implications of these processes for the fate of pollutants in soils and sediments, and the deposition of iron minerals on early Earth. His research combines microbial cultivation, molecular biology, fluorescence and electron microscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy, synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and spectromicroscopy.

Dianne K. Newman, PhD, earned her doctorate in environmental engineering with an emphasis on microbiology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. She gained training in bacterial genetics as a postgraduate scholar at Harvard Medical School. She is professor of biology and geobiology and an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena. She is a member of the American Society of Microbiology and the American Geophysical Union. Her research focuses on understanding the coevolution of anaerobic microbial metabolisms and environmental chemistry. The contexts that motivate her research span ancient sedimentary deposits to chronic infections. Her work is helping to reshape interpretations of ancient molecular fossils as well as redox-active “secondary” metabolites.

he loved it immediately
March 7, 2016

When I read this to my 3 1/2 year old grandson a few weeks ago, he loved it immediately. I think he said, “I want to hear that again!” 11 times and of course I obliged.
I supplement the story by explaining some of what is going on….asking Gabe what the facial expressions were telling him…what the little tornado over the heads of the characters mean. We talked about what each picture was telling us about what was going on. I also alter my voice for each character and raise the volume accordingly! I hadn’t read it to him in several weeks. When I arrived to babysit for him last evening he was wired. I saw the book and picked it up. He came right over and sat quietly next to me as I read it and once more I heard, “Again!”

This is adorable especially when me and my 7 year old play out the dialogue for my 3 year old. Not sure a 3 year old would understand why it’s so comical but my 7 year old does. Wasn’t happy that the cover came dirty but wasn’t about to deal with exchanging it.

Great teaching book
May 9, 2019

Great book! In a simple, understandable way, it teaches about how each person’s perspective changes how they see things. It helps young kids understand that not everyone sees/thinks about things the same as they do. The illustrations are quite cute and clearly illustrate the story. Most of the words are simple, so this is the first non-homework related book my kindergartener has read to me himself!

A win for my 3 & 5 year old!

Because of the purchase price we first checked these books out at the library. The kids were instantly fascinated. My kiddos love the illustration in these stories and I read them with funny voices. We have the whole collection so far and I’ll continue to purchase them. They’re simple and a little short but my kids laugh so hard. Big hit for us.

Simple story with cute illustrations
August 5, 2017

My daughter loved Anna Kang’s other book ” You are (not) small” so I bought her this one pretty soon after, a lot of it having to do with the cute bears drawn by Chris Weyant. It is a simple story of sharing In situations that a toddler in daycare can relate to. What I really like about it is how at the end, the two bears apologize for their behavior and go from to play together which teaches graciousness and forgiveness.

Reinforce MINE mindset
Reviewed in Canada on May 26, 2021

I purchased this book under the impression the book was teaching children the lesson of sharing. Instead, the book is about two animals fighting over the same chair, using MINE repeatedly, and then deciding to go play. It ended with another animal hopping in the chair and saying MINE.
I wish it fleshed out the two animals deciding that it was more fun to share the chair to read a book together, or something similar. Also, ending the book with mine just reinforces everything I was trying NOT to reinforce with my almost three year old.
