Annoying, nearly unusable, nearly impossible to cancel

I wanted access to Financial Times articles and this looked like a feasible method. One problem is that they come without photos, graphics or charts, a real problem especially with travel articles or anything involving finance. A second issue is that the content is cracked, exported via some filter that turns any graphic into a number and makes the text jumble. The biggest problem is that it went on and on, charging me $14.99 each time it renewed, and I still can’t find where in the website to turn it off. I am just about to turn off my entire account, just to get rid of it.

It’s the FT

It’s the FT, so that makes it worth the effort. However, as rendered using the Kindle App, it’s fairly terrible; layout and formatting is lost. Also, the subscription doesn’t include FT’s on-line content, for that they want a damn print subscription, which sort of defeats the entire purpose.

Poorly implemented for the Kindle

The interface was too difficult to navigate. Newspapers are designed for readers whose interests may lead them to specific articles regardless of which page/section in which they appear. Without a Table of Contents or the option of the familiar “Go To” function I had difficulty going to the page/article I wished to read without starting from the Home page every time. Very poorly implemented for the Kindle. Luckily, the online version is easy to navigate.

A great newspaper

The Financial Times is one of the best written and most insightful newspapers in the world. My only complaint with the Kindle version is that it doesn’t display many figures and graphs, which are a significant part of the FT’s content. That said, I love receiving it every day, regardless of where I am in the world.

The paper does not display on Ipad or Kindle Fire 8 in easy readable formate

The wall street journal is displayed similar to the look of the paper newspaper with an easy format to scan articles. The FT is displayed with one article and there is a drop down menu which displays a brief note on articles but you cannot get a sense of the entire topic of the article as it is too brief. Too cumbersome

FT’s “Ryanair” subscription level

For $15/month, it’s a great deal, (especially since the digital subscription at ft.com is current about $40/month) but it comes with two drawbacks:
* The Kindle subscription does not qualify the user for web-based content. You do not get a valid login for ft.com with this subscription, so you can’t subscribe to daily emails from the brilliant John Authers, etc.
* The Kindle version is very stripped-down, it’s basically text-only. Charts, graphs and pictures are not generally available or useful if provided.
The mitigating factor is that a robust, text-only version downloads very quickly and reliably, more so than other subscriptions like the WSJ. Nothing like settling into a flight and finding that the content didn’t download, that won’t happen with the FT.

Great newspaper. One of the few really well written english language newspapers. The US weekend edition provides a great summary of the important news of the week as well lifestyle and arts issues including the witt of David Tang.
