Fibroblast Growth Factors Biology and Clinical Application PDF-The fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family of ligands and the corresponding family of FGF receptor tyrosine kinases comprise one of the most versatile and diverse growth factor signaling families in vertebrates, found virtually in every tissue and cell type where they regulate metabolic and physiologic function, maintain tissue homeostasis, and mediate injury response, tissue repair, and regeneration. As a result, FGFs play critical roles in a wide variety of normal biological and abnormalities in FGF signaling can lead to a variety of disease states from developmental malformations, to atherosclerosis, pulmonary hypertension and cancer among many others. A thorough understanding of this system is necessary for critical insights into both normal and disease biology and is essential to development of rationale therapeutic strategies aimed at treatment of FGF-dependent diseases states.Recent years have seen advances in our understanding of FGFs role in endothelial and, more general, vascular biology, the subject of this book. In particular, FGFs have been implicated in the maintenance of vascular homeostasis and control of blood vessel permeability while aberrant FGF signaling has been shown to be central to the development of pulmonary hypertension, and endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition, a process implicated in the development of atherosclerosis. Finally, FGFs ability to stimulate blood vessel growth has been explored in therapeutic angiogenesis approaches. With this in mind, the present monograph is structured to provide comprehensive information to a reader interested in FGFs in general and vascular biology in particular. To this end, we explore everything from the structure and signaling of FGFs and their receptors (Chapters 1, 2 and 3) to their role in the regulation of vascular homeostasis (Chapter 4) and cardiovascular diseases (Chapters 5 and 6). We then address new developments in FGF therapeutics (chapter 7) and explore FGF biology in the epithelium (Chapter 8) thereby providing a complete analysis of this growth factor family biology in two closely related but distinctly different environments — endothelium and epithelium. Finally, we examine FGF biology in eye disease and in cancer. It is our hope that this comprehensive treatment of FGF vascular biology and its application will provide the reader with the accurate and timely summary of this rapidly moving field.

The Writers

I am an academic surgical pathologist specializing in specifically sarcoma and melanoma and molecular diagnostics for these tumor families. In addition, I play an important role in the design and implementation of our clinical next generation sequencing strategy. I am integrally involved in a multidisciplinary translational sarcoma lab and also support a variety of melanoma projects and clinical trials in this field. My particular value to our organization is my expertise in tissue-based research in support of translational research where I act as a co-investigator in multiple projects. In addition, I represent the institution on multiple committees relevant to cancer and molecular diagnostics including AJCC, CAP, CDC, CTOS, NIH, TCGA and USCAP.

Jerad Gardner “McKee’s Pathology of the Skin has been my go-to Dermpath reference textbook ever since I was in fellowship. I fell in love with it because of the numerous high quality images, both microscopic and clinical. It is also well written with practical tips and guidance on how to distinguish entities from their mimics. I still use this book regularly in my practice, and I also use it to teach my residents. In this 5th edition, Drs. Calonje, Brenn, Lazar, and Billings have taken on the daunting task of carrying forward Dr. McKee’s legacy and upholding the standards of excellence and quality that made his textbook a classic. They have succeeded brilliantly.”
“Excellent clinical photos and of course great pathological pictures. Everything is perfectly explain.
The expert consult app is an excellent tool to take them everywhere.”
yash “Facial danger zones is a comprehensive text focusing on facial anatomy as it relates to both surgical and non-surgical facial aesthetic surgery. The illustrations are superb and the authors have really provided clarity on areas that we’re not well described in the literature. If you are performing any type of facial aesthetic surgery, specifically facelifts, I highly recommend you read this book! It is truly knowledge from the masters. You won’t regret it.”
nutcha yodrabum “After having read this marvelous copy, this book is highly recommended for those plastic surgery residents and other residents in related fields in facial surgery and rejuvenation. Due to the fact that it is the easiest and quickest approach to grasp the main content at the same level as those experts. I found that the content in each section is systematically presented with well-structured moves. This facilitates us to progressively understand those sophisticated issues easily.
Apart from this, this book is appropriate for plastic surgeons and those related medical specialists who aim to update their knowledge with high standards and be well-equipped with the most up-to-date issues.
Compared with the book of which title was shared decades ago, I found a number of distinctive issues presented in this current book. For instance, in terms of anatomy, the previous concerns were about the facial nerve and the sensory nerve. It has shifted and highlighted on the vascular network. In case of operation/ procedure which used to focus only the facial surgery procedure (eg. facelift ) to both of the surgical and the non-surgical facial rejuvenation. This point includes filler and botulinum toxin injection. These have been received a lot of attention currently.
The authors also step forward to the energy device issues and so forth. They are generous enough to share their valuable and meticulous experiences which cannot be found elsewhere.
