Attributes of Embodied Selves and Divided Minds PDF

Embodied Selves and Divided Minds examines how research in embodied cognition and enactivism can contribute to our understanding of the nature of self-consciousness, the metaphysics of personal identity, and the disruptions to self-awareness that occur in case of psychopathology. Embodied Selves and Divided Minds PDF

It begins with the assumption that if we take embodiment seriously, then the resulting conception of the self (as physically grounded in the living body) can help us to make sense of how a minded subject persists across time. However, rather than relying solely on puzzle cases to discuss diachronic persistence and the sense of self, this work looks to schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder as case studies. Here we find real-life examples of anomalous phenomena that signify disruptions
to embodied self-experience and appear to indicate a fragmentation of the self. However, rather than concluding that these disorders count as genuine instances of multiplicity, the book’s discussion of the self and personal identity allows us to understand the characteristic symptoms of these
disorders as significant disruptions to self-consciousness. The concluding chapter then examines the implications of this theoretical framework for the clinical treatment of schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder.

Embodied Selves and Divided Minds reveals how a critical dialogue between Philosophy and Psychiatry can lead to a better understanding of important issues surrounding self-consciousness, personal identity, and psychopathology.

VINE VOICE
Bree is a target once again
May 21, 2022

This was another cracker in this series and I stayed up until the early hours to finish it off in one sitting. As per usual, the book hits the ground running with a terrific start, highlighted by the execution-style murders of a mother and son, one of which is a familiar face. When Bree is faced with constant hostility from old and new enemies who would love nothing more than to bring the sheriff down, her personal grit and determination to do her job and bring down a murderer is once again put to the test. There’s cyber crime, a local terrorist group, tension with her nephew as Bree continues to be her own harshest critic in regards to her parenting, threats to her team, the usual headaches with bureaucracy and the need for Bree to be diplomatic and constant attacks to her character, including accusations of possible corruption. There’s plenty going on to keep readers turning the page, which I did until about 5:30am. Boy, am I going to be fun to be around today lol. A quick note – if you haven’t read any books in this series before, you can certainly get away with starting here as the book provides small recaps into past events that are significant to the characters, but if you can, start from the beginning because it’s a terrific series.

* I’ve added a trigger warning a paragraphs down, but be warned as this is also a slight spoiler to some of the plot *

As for each of the books in this series, the characters are fabulous. Bree is a perfect female lead, being strong while having her own vulnerabilities and insecurities to keep her realistic and relatable. She’s still doing the best she can juggling parenting and policing and I love how this author gives her personal grit with just the right amount of compassion. While there wasn’t a lot of steam between her and Matt in this book, their relationship was solidified further and he was a constant presence throughout the book. Thank goodness, because his character is so delicious he makes me want to lick my Kindle. His dogs continue to also be a delight and I love what they bring to this series. Deputy Todd gets a few chapters from his own perspective and I enjoyed this because he’s another solid character. Morgan Dane pops in for a bit of the book so fans of this author’s other series should be pleased with the crossover. No Lance though – sad face 🙁 There’s also a potential love match in the book and since I read these for the small romance angle as well as the gruesome murders, this was very welcome.

Trigger warning (you’ll get the gist in the next few sentences): my only slight negative about the book was the cyber sex attack and sexually violent and graphic threats towards Bree. Without going into too much detail, Bree once again finds herself the target of a malicious and vindictive personal attack. This included graphic emails, hate messages and deepfake porn. I found this uncomfortable to read at times, not just because of the content, but because it felt like the author had ramped things up to fever pitch in order to emphasise how some individuals, particularly the old guard from the police station, all resented a new female sheriff. This theme of hate has run through the other books but when it escalated to this I started to find it a little tiresome, hence the frustration. I get it. She’s female and a lot of people, particularly males, hate her because of their fragile male egos and desire to continue their corrupt practices. I felt like this story line, which now has repercussions on Bree’s career not to mention the addition of more personal trauma, seemed like it was added in there because all of the ‘we don’t like her’ story lines had already been trotted out so the situation needed to escalate further to show how bad it is. I’m hoping because a couple of the story lines got closure here that this is the end of this somewhat repetitive plot device. While it played a part in the case and certainly added to the drama of the reading experience (I get that this is part of Bree’s ongoing story), I felt it was a little tedious as this incident was taking place alongside the usual bureaucratic frustrations that make me want to stick needles in my eye and quit on Bree’s behalf. This is only according to my own personal preference, I’ll add, but fans of the series will be well aware that our leading lady has a rough go of it on a normal day. I was satisfied with how things wrapped up so the book was still a five star read for me but I thought the trigger was worth mentioning. The additional rant you get for free 🙂

Overall, this was another great read for me and a solid 5 stars. The story had a good twist even though other elements of the crime will probably be pieced together early by a lot of readers as it wasn’t overly subtle in parts. I probably would have liked a little bit more detail in the actual ‘why’ of the crime since there was such a cold focus placed on the killings and the actual perpetrator wasn’t really heard from once caught, but again, this is personal preference and it didn’t stop the book from being a terrific read. There was one particular characters I would have liked to see get a big slap to the face, but there’s always the next book, right? Speaking of which, now the waiting begins. That’s the worst part about these books – I eat them up in one sitting and now have to wait forrrreeeevveerrr. Reader problems, but they’re definitely worth the wait.

Wow! superb storyline!

waiting months for this book and once again this author does not dissapoint!

I love The Bree series! It starts with the murder of former deputy that Bree had to let go months earlier and it spirals. There was never a dull moment in this book…Bree is dealing with severe criticism from the public about this murder investigation and when things seem worse…Bree’s face is on several pornographic images for all to see!
I love the strength Bree has and love how she and Matt work together on this case. It also gets into a very interesting list of suspects….and had a twist at the end I didn’t see coming. Can’t wait for the next book in January

A heroine that is real…and a series that blends mystery and family and reality
May 22, 2022

I love this series more than I thought I would! Kindle Unlimited has been a blessing since COVID but it is sometimes hit or miss. Finding the Bree Taggert series has been a big hit!

Continuing background drama and issues connect each book in the series, but in a way that feels natural, normal, and interesting. It’s not enough to keep you from starting the series with any book, but it does connect through all.

This installment throws a LOT at our Sheriff, including many current event type issues that illustrate how hard it is to fight technology-related crimes sometimes, the power of media, politicians being crappy, and the potential danger of extremist groups. All of this somehow comes together to both tear down and build up Sheriff Bree at the same time, making her more confident in herself and choices in the end.

The book made me stay up until the wee hours if the morning…and yet I can’t find a good place to start to try to explain this intricately woven story without giving too much away. Suffice it to say that I was completely shocked, laughing, and almost crying at various times. I highly recommend all of the books in this series, and the latest release is one to read for sure. I’m so glad to know I hav at least two more to look forward to in the next 6+ months!

another amazing story
May 19, 2022

This is another fantastic book in the series. As usual, it’s best to read the series in order for the full impact. There is enough backstory embedded so you don’t have to have read the previous books but really, this author is an amazing story teller. And you won’t find horrid grammatical errors and typos in her work. Personally, once I start, I can’t put any of her books down until the end.

Her characters are realistic and well balanced. If you love mysteries with a side bit of romance, you’ll get addicted to her writing.

Kudos to the author for another win! Now, when is the next one coming!?!

Thrilling

Another fabulous installment in this series. Bree has grown so much personally over the previous books and that becomes really evident in this book. Former deputy Eugene Oscar was a pain in the tail for Bree from the start. Now he’s dead and it’s up to Bree to find his murderer. She has to do it while dealing with intense harassment from an unknown source. Once again we are set upon a twisted trail and Bree will power through like she always does only this time she has the backing of family and friends. This story will grab your attention and not let go till way past the last page.

It’s okay, the reader it of the audio made it almost unbearable
May 25, 2022

I keep reading this series for some reason so, for that, I give it 2-stars.

The way the writer created Bree is laughable. So weak, unsure, but yet a “strong” sheriff. I just find myself annoyed by her a lot. From all the other reviews, I seem to be the minority, so maybe it’s just me.

What really gets me though, every single time, is Christina Traister, the one reading the book for the audio companion. The amount of time I LOL’d from the dramatic way the book is read would have made anyone around me think I was reading/listening to a comedy. Just ridiculous & beyond annoying. I hope that by the time the 6th book comes out I’m smart enough to skip it. It obviously is not getting any better. (At least she’s finally done stringing Matt along though, I guess.)
