Well organized and concise review.

I really like this book — after struggling with resources for the pediatric clerkship and shelf, I decided to give this a try and see what I thought of it. It’s organized in two levels of heirarchy:
1) Chapters for each section (general peds, infection disease, cardiology, pulm, etc)
2) Each chapter has subheadings with a few questions on each topic

This is a HUGE improvement over a book like case files and pretest which are essentially just random — this makes it pretty easy to review some high yield facts across various organ systems and pathologies. The question and answer format is really nice, and makes it easy to quiz yourself to see if you’re remembering the things you need to remember.

As far as content, the book has a surprising amount of facts jammed into the ~200 pages, but it’s also very fast to read and review. The answers are also formulated in very simple language that doesn’t require any mental gymnastics to comprehend. There are certainly topics that aren’t covered, and some sections lend themselves better to the Q&A format of this book, but I think it’s definitely worth the read. The chapters that are more factual material by definition are obviously better, with some sections that require more in depth physiology integration like cardio aren’t quite as slick.

This also has a lot of very classic questions that you’re likely to get pimped on, so it helps to read through the respective section before you go in to see a certain patient to brush up on the high yields you’re likely to get quizzed on.
